Abstract
A device is disclosed that includes a bone stent positioned within a bony access channel formed within a vertebra. The bony access channel may extends from an outer end of the vertebra through an endplate. The device includes an end cap attached to a proximal end portion of the bone stent and is configured to, post-operatively, open to allow a reintroduction of a material to a spinal intradiscal space or intervertebral disc and to seal access to the spinal intradiscal space or the intervertebral disc after the reintroduction of the material.
Claims19
A device comprising:
- a flexible bone stent having a deformable internal pathway extending from a proximal end portion to a distal end portion, the bone stent being configured to be positioned within a bony access channel formed within a vertebra and remain positioned within the boney access channel post-operatively, the bony access channel extending from an outer end of the vertebra through an endplate of the vertebra;
- and
- a first end cap attached to the proximal end portion of the bone stent, the first end cap comprising a seal that is configured to, post-operatively, open to allow a reintroduction of a material through the internal pathway to a spinal intradiscal space or intervertebral disc and to close access through the internal pathway to the spinal intradiscal space or the intervertebral disc after the reintroduction of the material, and a second end cap attached to the distal end portion of the bone stent, the second end cap comprising a seal configured to seal the internal passageway of the bone stent.
A device comprising:
- a flexible cylindrical bone stent having an outer layer and an inner layer extending from a proximal end portion to a distal end portion, respectively, the outer layer comprising a flexible material covering the inner layer, the inner layer comprising a mesh-like endoskeleton configured to radially contract and expand, the inner layer and outer layer defining a deformable internal pathway extending from the proximal end portion to the distal end portion, wherein the bone stent is configured to be positioned within and conform to a bony access channel formed within a vertebra and remain positioned within the boney access channel post-operatively, the bony access channel extending from an outer end of the vertebra through an endplate of the vertebra and having an irregular cross sectional width;
- a first end cap attachable to the proximal end portion of the bone stent, the first end cap comprising a seal that is configured to, post-operatively, open to allow a reintroduction of a material through the internal pathway to and to close access to the internal pathway after the reintroduction of the material;
- a first docking ring having at least one anchoring element that extends in a lateral direction away from a circumferential side surface of the first docking ring, the first docking ring being configured to anchor to the outer end of the vertebra adjacent a proximal end of the boney access channel;
- a second end cap attachable to the distal end portion of the bone stent, the second end cap comprising a seal configured to seal the internal passageway of the bone stent, and
- a second docking ring having at least one anchoring element that extends in a lateral direction away from a circumferential side surface of the second docking ring, the second docking ring being configured to anchor to a portion of a vertebrae adjacent a surface of the endplate of the vertebra and a distal end of the boney access channel,
- wherein an outside circumferential surface of the first end cap is attachable to and un-attachable from the first docking ring via an interior circumferential surface of the first docking ring, and
- wherein an outside circumferential surface of the second end cap is attachable to and un-attachable from the second docking ring via an interior circumferential surface of the second docking ring.
