Method for SMS service continuity, network preference, and reporting logic

A method for an electronic device, comprising:

• storing an IP address of a recipient in an accessible storage;
• attempting delivery of a short message service (SMS) message to the recipient on a first network a first predetermined number of times according to a first predetermined time schedule,
• wherein the first predetermined number of times and the first predetermined time schedule are based on a retry mechanism on SIP that utilizes an increasing back-off interval between delivery attempts;
• after a first failure to deliver the SMS message on the first network, attempting delivery of the SMS message on a second network according to a second predetermined time schedule;
• after a second failure to deliver the SMS message on the second network, reattempting delivery of the SMS message on the first network;
• while reattempting delivery of the SMS message on the first network, receiving a second SMS message for the recipient;
• storing the second SMS message in a waitlist queue;
• receiving a RADIUS feed associated with the SMS message;
• extracting data from the RADIUS feed;
• storing the data extracted in a call detail record comprising:
• a route index, a mobile directory number, a wide area network (WAN) IP address, or a virtual private network (VPN) IP address;
• and
• evaluating the call detail record comprising, determining SMS traffic patterns on the first network and on the second network.

A system comprising:

• a memory;
• a processor coupled to the memory, configured to:
• store an IP address of a recipient in the memory;
• attempt delivery of a short message service (SMS) message to the recipient on a first network a first predetermined number of times according to a first predetermined time schedule,
• wherein the first predetermined number of times and the first predetermined time schedule are based on a retry mechanism on SIP that utilizes an increasing back-off interval between delivery attempts;
• after a first failure to deliver the SMS message on the first network, attempt delivery of the SMS message on a second network according to a second predetermined time schedule;
• after a second failure to deliver the SMS message on the second network, reattempt delivery of the SMS message on the first network;
• while reattempting delivery of the SMS message on the first network, receive a second SMS message for the recipient;
• store the second SMS message in a waitlist queue;
• receive a RADIUS feed associated with the SMS message;
• extract data from the RADIUS feed;
• store the data extracted in a call detail record comprising:
• a route index, a mobile directory number, a wide area network (WAN) IP address, or a virtual private network (VPN) IP address;
• and
• evaluate the call detail record comprising, determining SMS traffic patterns on the first network and on the second network.
