Abstract
The system may capture an image comprising an original image size. The system may further determine an optimal size for the image based on a connection bandwidth and/or connection latency. The system may also compress the image to reduce an image size locally until the image size is less than or equal to the optimal size, before transmitting the image with the optimal size to the receiver while controlling latency in image transmission.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- identifying, by a mobile device, a targeted upload time for the mobile device based on a screen size of the mobile device;
- determining, by the mobile device, a file size for a transmission of an image based at least in part on a connection latency between the mobile device and a computing device and based at least in part on the targeted upload time for completing the transmission of the image, wherein the file size is determined prior to the transmission of the image;
- compressing, by the mobile device, the image into a compressed image until a compressed file size of the compressed image meets the file size;
- and
- transmitting, by the mobile device, the compressed image to the computing device for storage.
A mobile device, comprising:
- a processor;
- a memory;
- and
- machine-readable instructions stored in the memory that, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile device to at least:
- identify a targeted upload time for the mobile device based on a screen size of the mobile device;
- determine a file size for a transmission of an image based at least in part on a connection latency between the mobile device and a computing device and based at least in part on the targeted upload time for completing the transmission of the image, wherein the file size is determined prior to the transmission of the image;
- compress the image into a compressed image until a compressed file size of the compressed image meets the file size;
- and
- transmit the compressed image to the computing device for storage.
A non-transitory computer program product having computer-executable instructions stored thereon that, if executed by a mobile device, causes the mobile device to at least:
- identify a targeted upload time for the mobile device based on a screen size of the mobile device;
- determine a file size for a transmission of an image based at least in part on a connection latency between the mobile device and a computing device and based at least in part on the targeted upload time for completing the transmission of the image, wherein the file size is determined prior to the transmission of the image;
- compress the image into a compressed image until a compressed file size of the compressed image meets the file size;
- and
- transmit the compressed image to the computing device for storage.
