Abstract
The method of some embodiments synchronizes NAT records between an active gateway and a standby gateway. The active gateway encodes a NAT record that includes at least an external source IP address. The encoded NAT record does not include the external source IP address but does include an identifier that uniquely specifies the external source IP address. The active gateway sends the encoded NAT record to the standby gateway.
Claims20
A method of synchronizing network address translation (NAT) records between an active gateway and a standby gateway, the method comprising, at the active gateway:
- encoding a NAT record that comprises at least an external source IP address, wherein the encoded NAT record does not include the external source IP address but does include an identifier that uniquely specifies the external source IP address;
- and
- sending the encoded NAT record to the standby gateway.
A machine readable medium storing a program which when executed on at least one processing unit synchronizes network address translation (NAT) records between an active gateway and a standby gateway, the program comprising sets of instructions for, at the active gateway:
- encoding a NAT record that comprises at least an external source IP address, wherein the encoded NAT record does not include the external source IP address but does include an identifier that uniquely specifies the external source IP address;
- and
- sending the encoded NAT record to the standby gateway.
A system comprising at least one processing unit and a machine readable medium storing a program which when executed on the at least one processing unit synchronizes network address translation (NAT) records between an active gateway and a standby gateway, the program comprising sets of instructions for, at the active gateway:
- encoding a NAT record that comprises at least an external source IP address, wherein the encoded NAT record does not include the external source IP address but does include an identifier that uniquely specifies the external source IP address;
- and
- sending the encoded NAT record to the standby gateway.
