## CPC

- G06V 30/412: Layout analysis of documents structured with printed lines or input boxes, e.g. business forms or tables
- G06V 30/416: Extracting the logical structure, e.g. chapters, sections or page numbers; Identifying elements of the document, e.g. authors
- G06V 30/10: Character recognition
- G06V: IMAGE OR VIDEO RECOGNITION OR UNDERSTANDING

## Abstract

An information processing apparatus includes processing circuitry that acquires an electronic file containing first text data, and determines, based on the acquired electronic file, whether to use the first text data or second text data to perform a process. The second text data is generated through character recognition performed on an image contained in the acquired electronic file.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An information processing apparatus comprising:
processing circuitry configured to
acquire an electronic file containing first text data, and
determine, based on conversion tool information included in attribute information of the acquired electronic file, whether to use the first text data or second text data to perform a process, the second text data being generated through character recognition performed on an image contained in the acquired electronic file, and the conversion tool information representing a conversion tool used to convert an electronic file that contains no text data into the acquired electronic file.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The information processing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the acquired electronic file contains data in portable document format.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The information processing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processing circuitry acquires an electronic file of a ledger sheet, and performs the process to extract data of a certain item from the ledger sheet.

### Claim 4

An information processing method comprising:
acquiring an electronic file containing first text data, and
determining, based on conversion tool information included in attribute information of the acquired electronic file, whether to use the first text data or second text data to perform a process, the second text data being generated through character recognition performed on an image contained in the acquired electronic file, and the conversion tool information representing a conversion tool used to convert an electronic file that contains no text data into the acquired electronic file.

### Claim 5

A non-transitory recording medium storing a plurality of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the processors to perform an information processing method comprising:
acquiring an electronic file containing first text data, and
determining, based on conversion tool information included in attribute information of the acquired electronic file, whether to use the first text data or second text data to perform a process, the second text data being generated through character recognition performed on an image contained in the acquired electronic file, and the conversion tool information representing a conversion tool used to convert an electronic file that contains no text data into the acquired electronic file.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The information processing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the circuitry is configured to use the first text data when the conversion tool that is indicated by the conversion tool information is permitted.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The information processing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the circuitry is configured to use the second text data when the conversion tool that is indicated by the conversion tool information is not permitted.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The information processing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the circuitry is configured to use the first text data when the conversion tool that is indicated by the conversion tool information is permitted by a user.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The information processing apparatus of claim 1, wherein the circuitry is further configured to store a coordinate X, a coordinate Y, a width, and a height of a character of the first text data, and the character of the first text data in association with identification data (ID) ID of the first text data upon determining that the first text data is used.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The information processing apparatus of claim 9, wherein the storing further includes storing a degree of certainty upon determining that the first text data is used.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The information processing apparatus of claim 9, wherein the circuitry is further configured to, before performing the process:
convert the image into portable network graphics (PNG) format;
select one page of the image;
perform a preprocessing;
clip character fields; and
clip characters and perform character recognition.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The information processing apparatus of claim 11, wherein the preprocessing includes correcting an inclination of the image.
