Abstract
A method and apparatus for start and stop of reception of downlink (DL) transmission based on a paging in a wireless communication system is provided. A wireless device, upon receiving a paging, resumes a radio bearer in an idle state (e.g., RRC_IDLE) and/or an inactive state (e.g., RRC_INACTIVE).
Claims10
A method for a wireless device in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
- entering an idle state and/or an inactive state;
- receiving, from a network, information indicating either a control plane evolved packet system (EPS) optimization or a user plane EPS optimization for downlink transmission;
- monitoring paging indicating that downlink data is to be transmitted in the idle state and/or an inactive state;
- based on the information indicating the user plane EPS optimization:
- upon receiving the paging, resuming at least one of a data radio bearer (DRB) for the downlink transmission in the idle state and/or the inactive state;
- receiving, from the network, the downlink data via the DRB in the idle state and/or the inactive state;
- and
- upon receiving an indication that the downlink transmission is to be stopped, suspending the DRB in the idle state and/or the inactive state;
- based on the information indicating the control plane EPS optimization:
- upon receiving the paging, resuming a signaling radio bearer (SRB) for the downlink transmission in the idle state and/or inactive state;
- receiving, from the network, the downlink data via the SRB in the idle state and/or the inactive state;
- and
- upon receiving an indication that the downlink transmission is to be stopped, suspending the SRB in the idle state and/or the inactive state.

A wireless device in a wireless communication system, the wireless device comprising:
- at least one transceiver;
- at least processor;
- and
- at least one computer memory operably connectable to the at least one processor and storing instructions that, based on being executed by the at least one processor, perform operations comprising:
- entering an idle state and/or an inactive state;
- receiving, from a network, information indicating either a control plane evolved packet system (EPS) optimization or a user plane EPS optimization for downlink transmission;
- monitoring paging indicating that downlink data is to be transmitted in the idle state and/or an inactive state;
- based on the information indicating the user plane EPS optimization:
- upon receiving the paging, resuming at least one of a data radio bearer (DRB) for the downlink transmission in the idle state and/or the inactive state;
- receiving, from the network, the downlink data via the DRB in the idle state and/or the inactive state;
- and
- upon receiving an indication that the downlink transmission is to be stopped, suspending the DRB in the idle state and/or the inactive state;
- based on the information indicating the control plane EPS optimization:
- upon receiving the paging, resuming a signaling radio bearer (SRB) for the downlink transmission in the idle state and/or inactive state;
- receiving, from the network, the downlink data via the SRB in the idle state and/or the inactive state;
- and
- upon receiving an indication that the downlink transmission is to be stopped, suspending the SRB in the idle state and/or the inactive state.
