Encoding and decoding selectively retrievable representations of video content

A non-transitory computer-readable apparatus comprising at least one computer program, the at least one computer program comprising a plurality of instructions which are configured to, when executed on a computerized apparatus, cause the computerized apparatus to:

• obtain a plurality of data structures associated with one or more images having an original resolution, the plurality of data structures comprising at least a first component and one or more second components, the first component corresponding to an image having a first resolution, the one or more second components each corresponding to an image having a resolution greater that of the first resolution;
• based on a selective decode of all of the plurality of data structures, construct a first image having the original resolution;
• and
• based on a selective decode of fewer than all of the plurality of data structures, construct a second image having a second resolution that is equal to or greater than the first resolution and lower than the original resolution, the construction of the second image comprising a combination of data associated with the first component and data associated with some of the one or more second components.

A non-transitory computer-readable apparatus comprising at least one computer program, the at least one computer program comprising a plurality of instructions which are configured to, when executed by a processor apparatus, cause a computerized apparatus to:

• obtain a plurality of video data comprising a plurality of data structures each having an image associated therewith, the image being associated with a lossless resolution;
• decode a first portion of the plurality of data structures according to a selected display resolution, the decode comprising a decode using the plurality of data structures, the plurality of data structures comprising (i) a base structure and (ii) a plurality of additional structures each combinable with at least the base component so as to achieve a plurality of different display resolutions;
• and
• combine data structures associated with the decoded first portion of the plurality of data structures to produce a first frame having the selected display resolution, the combined data structures comprising the base structure and less than all of the plurality of additional structures.
