Abstract
A disparity image in a stereoscopic image is generated not to collapse. In a case where a viewing position in the entire celestial image space, specified on the basis of position information of a user, is within a range of a predetermined distance from an original point in a coordinate system of the entire celestial image, a disparity image based on the viewing position is generated, and in a case where the viewing position in the entire celestial image space is not within the range of a predetermined distance from the original point in the coordinate system of the entire celestial image, the viewing position in the entire celestial image space is moved to the original point of the entire celestial image space, and the disparity image is generated. The present disclosure can be applied to an HMD.
Claims21
An image processor, for generating a left eye image and a right eye image for a user having a user viewpoint, based on at least a first source image having a reference viewpoint, the image processor comprising:
- circuitry configured to
- detect whether a difference between the user viewpoint and the reference viewpoint is less than a threshold value,
- generate a left eye image and a right eye image for the user having the user viewpoint when the difference between the user viewpoint and the reference viewpoint is less than the threshold value, and
- generate an adapted version of at least one of the left eye image or the right eye image for the user viewpoint when the difference between the user viewpoint and the reference viewpoint is greater than or equal to the threshold value,
- wherein the difference between the user viewpoint and the reference viewpoint includes at least one of a difference between respective viewpoint positions or a difference between respective viewpoint directions,
- wherein the difference between the respective viewpoint positions includes a difference between a viewing position of the user viewpoint and a viewing position of the reference viewpoint,
- wherein if the difference between the respective viewpoint positions is not less than a distance threshold value, then the circuitry generates the adapted version of the at least one of the left eye image or the right eye image for the user viewpoint, adapted so that the difference between the respective viewpoint positions becomes less than the distance threshold value, and
- wherein the circuitry is further configured to generate a sequence of one or more left eye images and right eye images for the user viewpoint, adapted so that the viewing position of the user viewpoint becomes iteratively closer to the viewing position of the reference viewpoint.
A control method for an image processor operable to generate a left eye image and a right eye image for a user having a user viewpoint, based on at least a first source image having a reference viewpoint, the method comprising:
- detecting whether a difference between the user viewpoint and the reference viewpoint is less than a threshold value;
- generating a left eye image and a right eye image for the user having the user viewpoint when the difference between the user viewpoint and the reference viewpoint is less than the threshold value;
- generating an adapted version of at least one of the left eye image or the right eye image for the user viewpoint when the difference between the user viewpoint and the reference viewpoint is greater than or equal to the threshold value;
- and
- generating a sequence of one or more left eye images and right eye images for the user viewpoint, adapted so that the viewing position of the user viewpoint becomes iteratively closer to the viewing position of the reference viewpoint,
- wherein the difference between the user viewpoint and the reference viewpoint includes at least one of a difference between respective viewpoint positions or a difference between respective viewpoint directions,
- wherein the difference between the respective viewpoint positions includes a difference between a viewing position of the user viewpoint and a viewing position of the reference viewpoint, and
- wherein if the difference between the respective viewpoint positions is not less than a distance threshold value, then the adapted version of the at least one of the left eye image or the right eye image is generated for the user viewpoint, adapted so that the difference between the respective viewpoint positions becomes less than the distance threshold value.
