Abstract
The disclosure provide methods and content consumption devices that enable a scene, for example a 360° scene, that is larger (i.e. has more pixels in at least one dimension) than a display format of the content consumption device to be displayed. Constituent scene views are received individually by the content consumption device, for example as broadcasts, and are combined, for example stitched together, at the content consumption device to output a part of the scene that fits in the display format. The part of the scene (and hence the required constituent streams) to be displayed are determined by a signal, for example a navigational input from a user, enabling the user to navigate in the scene.
Claims14
A method of processing video streams at a content consumption device, the method comprising:
- receiving two or more separate video streams of a plurality of video streams broadcast over cable, satellite, over-the-air, or the Internet and received in a receiver of said content consumption device, wherein each of the plurality of video streams corresponds to a respective stream portion of a scene and the video streams are combinable into a combined stream corresponding to the scene;
- receiving a signal at an input of said content consumption device, the signal indicating an output portion of the scene to be output by said content consumption device, wherein the output portion has less pixels in at least one dimension than the scene;
- combining the two or more separate video streams in a processor of said content consumption device to produce an output video stream corresponding to the output portion;
- and
- outputting the output video stream to an output interface of said content consumption device for viewing the output video stream on a display at said content consumption device.
A content consumption device comprising:
- a receiver for receiving two or more separate video streams of a plurality of video streams broadcast over cable, satellite, over-the-air, or the Internet, wherein each of the plurality of video streams corresponds to a respective stream portion of a scene and the video streams are combinable into a combined stream corresponding to the scene;
- an input for a signal indicating an output portion of a scene to be output by said content consumption device, wherein the output portion has less pixels in at least one dimension than the scene;
- an output interface;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- receive two or more separate video streams of the plurality of video streams from the receiver;
- receive the signal;
- combine the two or more separate video streams to produce an output video stream corresponding to the output portion;
- and
- cause output of the output video stream by the output interface for viewing the output video stream on a display at said content consumption device.
A non-transitory computer readable media encoding coded instructions that, when executed on a processor of a content consumption device cause the processor to:
- receive two or more separate video streams of a plurality of video streams broadcast over cable, satellite, over-the-air, or the Internet, wherein each of the plurality of video streams corresponds to a respective stream portion of a scene and the video streams are combinable into a combined stream corresponding to the scene;
- receive a signal indicating an output portion of the scene to be output by said content consumption device, wherein the output portion has less pixels in at least one dimension than the scene;
- combine the two or more video streams to produce an output video stream corresponding to the output portion;
- and
- output the output video stream device for viewing the output video stream on a display at said content consumption device.
