Network component selection based on device identifier

A system comprising:

• one or more processors;
• a memory;
• and
• one or more instructions stored in the memory and executable by the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• determining a plurality of control functions associated with a network;
• identifying a plurality of control function groups, each including different multiple ones of the plurality of control functions, wherein each control function is designated, via an associated designation, for serving user devices associated with different sets of one or more capabilities;
• receiving, from a session management node, a request to connect with the network, the request including an identifier associated with a user device, the identifier being a device identifier or user identifier;
• determining, based on the identifier, that the user device is associated with one or more capabilities;
• creating, based at least in part on the identifier and a designation associated with a first of control function group of the plurality of control function groups that the first of control function group is designated for serving user devices associated with the determined one or more capabilities, a session between the user device and the first control function group.

A method comprising:

• determining a plurality of control functions associated with a network;
• identifying a plurality of control function groups, each including different multiple ones of the plurality of control functions, wherein each control function is designated, via an associated designation, for serving user devices associated with different sets of one or more capabilities;
• receiving, from a session management node, a request to connect with the network, the request including an identifier associated with a user device, the identifier being a device identifier or user identifier;
• determining, based on the identifier, that the user device is associated with one or more capabilities;
• and
• creating, based at least in part on the identifier and a designation associated with a first of control function group of the plurality of control function groups that the first of control function group is designated for serving user devices associated with the determined one or more capabilities, a session between the user device and the first control function group.
