Abstract
Disclosed are systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media to perform automatic image inpainting using local patch statistics. The method includes receiving a user input identifying a user-selected region of an image and determining a local region for the user-selected region. The local region includes a portion of the image outside of the user-selected region and that surrounds the user-selected region. The method may further include identifying patch matches within the local region, and inpainting the user-selected region using some of the patch matches identified within the local region.

A system comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- memory coupled to the processor and storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the system to perform operations comprising:
- receiving user input identifying an object depicted in an image;
- determining a first region of the image based on the user input, the determining of the first region including determining a size of the first region based on a size of a second region of the image indicated by the user input, the first region of the image including one or more portions of the image that surround the second region of the image;
- and
- removing the object from the image by replacing the second region of the image with the one or more portions of the first region of the image that surround the second region, the replacing of the second region of the image with one or more portions of the first region comprising combining a stack of two or more shifted images, the replacing of the second region with the one or more portions of the image yielding a modified image without the object.
A method comprising:
- receiving user input identifying an object depicted in an image;
- determining a first region of the image based on the user input, the determining of the first region including determining a size of the first region based on a size of a second region of the image indicated by the user input, the first region of the image including one or more portions of the image that surround the second region of the image;
- and
- removing the object from the image by replacing the second region of the image with the one or more portions of the first region of the image that surround the second region, the replacing of the second region of the image with one or more portions of the first region comprising combining a stack of two or more shifted images, the replacing of the second region with the one or more portions of the image yielding a modified image without the object.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a computer system, cause the computer system to perform operations comprising:
- receiving user input identifying an object depicted in an image;
- determining a first region of the image based on the user input, the determining of the first region including determining a size of the first region based on a size of a second region of the image indicated by the user input, the first region of the image including one or more portions of the image that surround the second region of the image;
- and
- removing the object from the image by replacing the second region of the image with the one or more portions of the first region of the image that surround the second region, the replacing of the second region of the image with one or more portions of the first region comprising combining a stack of two or more shifted images, the replacing of the second region with the one or more portions of the image yielding a modified image without the object.
