Information security/privacy via a decoupled security cap to an always listening assistant device

A decoupled security cap for an always-listening computing device comprising:

• a first electronic sensor configured to record user input comprising an utterance or a gesture;
• a speaker configured to output recorded user input to one or more microphones of the always-listening device;
• a substantially soundproof housing configured to prevent the one or more microphones of the always-listening device from receiving environmental audio;
• and
• a gate-keeping module, implemented by a processor, configured to:
• receive, via an exclusive input lead from the first electronic sensor, the user input;
• record the user input in a memory;
• and
• based on a determination that the user input comprises a command:
• disable a gate-keeping function, wherein the gate-keeping module blocks data received from the first electronic sensor from passing through the gate-keeping module when the gate-keeping function is enabled and allows data received from the first electronic sensor to pass through the gate-keeping module when the gate-keeping function is disabled;
• and
• output, to the one or more microphones of the always-listening device and via an exclusive output lead to the speaker, at least a portion of the user input recorded in the memory.
