Abstract
A system and method are disclosed for pairing computing devices using an authentication protocol that allows an initiating computing device to gain access to a secure, encrypted network of a target computing device.
Claims14
A device comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the device to perform operations comprising:
- detecting performance of a gesture, wherein the gesture:
- defines at least motion of the device and a location at which the device physically contacts another device;
- has been previously set up, by a user of the device, to represent a customized desire to pair the device with the other device;
- and
- is indicative of a parameter, that has previously been associated with the gesture by the user, that is applied to the pairing of the device with the other device and that is not applied to another pairing of the device with an additional device;
- associating the performance of the gesture with the parameter, wherein the parameter defines at least one of (i) whether an authentication protocol is required to pair the device with the other device or (ii) a type of the authentication protocol required to pair the device with the other device;
- and
- sending a request to pair the device with the other device, wherein the request includes information associated with the parameter.

A method of pairing a first device with a second device, comprising:
- detecting performance of a gesture, wherein the gesture:
- defines at least motion of the first device and a location at which the first device physically contacts the second device;
- has been previously set up, by a user of the first device, to represent a customized desire to pair the first device with the second device;
- and
- is indicative of a parameter, that has previously been associated with the gesture by the user, that is applied to the pairing of the first device with the second device and that is not applied to another pairing of the first device with an additional device;
- associating the performance of the gesture with the parameter, wherein the parameter defines at least one of (i) whether an authentication protocol is required to pair the first device with the second device or (ii) a type of the authentication protocol required to pair the first device with the second device;
- and
- sending a request to pair the first device with the second device, wherein the request includes information associated with the parameter.
