Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for defining, measuring and tracking aspects, such as pavement defects. Based on the survey data dimensional detail for the pavement defects is determined and treatment approaches selected. A bid package based on the treatment approach is generated.

A system for pavement defect tracking, comprising:
- a data collection device comprising a handheld body configured to be positioned at a paved property by a user, a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver configured to generate location data for the data collection device, an imaging device configured to capture digital imagery, and a user interface configured to allow the user to operate the data collection device and create survey data for the paved property;
- a pavement defect management computing system, the pavement defect management computing system comprising at least one processor and non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon which when executed by the at least one processor cause the at least one processor to:
- store a plurality of different treatment approaches in a memory;
- receive survey data from the data collection device operated by the user at the paved property, wherein the survey data comprises geospatial information and digital imagery for each of a plurality of pavement defects of the paved property, wherein the survey data is associated with a geographic path of travel of the data collection device at the paved property during operation by the user, wherein the plurality of pavement defects of the paved property comprises one or more linear pavement defects and one or more polygon pavement defects, and wherein for linear pavement defects the survey data describes the length of the linear pavement defect based at least in part on the geographic path of travel of the data collection device in relation to the length of the linear pavement defect, and wherein for polygon pavement defects the survey data describes the perimeter of the polygon pavement defect based at least in part on the geographic path of travel of the data collection device in relation to the perimeter of the polygon pavement defect;
- and
- based on the survey data, determine dimensional detail for each of the plurality of pavement defects, wherein the dimensional detail comprises a defect length for each of the one or more linear pavement defects and the dimensional detail comprises a defect area for each of the one or more polygon pavement defects;
- select a treatment approach from the plurality of treatment approaches for each of the plurality of pavement defects, wherein for each of the plurality of pavement defects, the selected treatment approach is based at least partially on the dimensional detail of the pavement defect;
- and
- visually convey on a map of the paved property geographic locations of each of the plurality of pavement defects.
A computer-based method for pavement defect tracking based on survey data from a data collection device, the data collection device comprising a handheld body configured to be positioned by a user at a paved property, a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver configured to generate location data for the data collection device, an imaging device configured to capture digital imagery, and a user interface configured to allow the user to operate the data collection device and create survey data for the paved property, by a pavement defect management computing system comprising instructions stored in a memory, which when executed by a processor of the pavement defect management computing system, cause the pavement defect management computing system to perform the method comprising:
- storing, by the pavement defect management computing system, a plurality of different treatment approaches in a memory;
- receiving, at the pavement defect management computing system and from the data collection device operated by the user at the paved property, survey data from the paved property, wherein the survey data comprises geospatial information and digital imager for each of a plurality of pavement defects of the paved property, wherein the survey data is associated with a geographic path of travel of the data collection device at the paved property, wherein the plurality of pavement defects of the paved property comprises one or more linear pavement defects and one or more polygon pavement defects, and wherein for linear pavement defects the survey data describes the length of the linear pavement defect based at least in part on the geographic path of travel of the data collection device in relation to the length of the linear pavement defect, and wherein for polygon pavement defects the survey data describes the perimeter of the polygon pavement defect based at least in part on the geographic path of travel of the data collection device in relation to the perimeter of the polygon pavement defect;
- based on the survey data, determining, by the pavement defect management computing system, dimensional detail for each of the plurality of pavement defects, wherein the dimensional detail comprises a defect length for each of the one or more linear pavement defects and the dimensional detail comprises a defect area for each of the one or more polygon pavement defects;
- selecting, by the pavement defect management computing system, a treatment approach from the plurality of treatment approaches for each of the plurality of pavement defects, wherein for each of the plurality of pavement defects, the selected treatment approach is based at least partially on the dimensional detail of the pavement defect;
- and
- visually convey on a map of the paved property a geographic location of each of the plurality of pavement defects.
A method for pavement defect tracking, comprising:
- positioning and operating a data collection device at a paved property, the data collection device comprising a handheld body, a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver configured to generate location data for the data collection device, an imaging device configured to capture digital imagery, and a user interface configured to allow a user to operate the data collection device;
- creating a set of survey data for the paved property based on positioning and operating of the data collection device at the paved property, the set of survey data comprising a geographic path of travel of the data collection device at the property and digital imagery of the paved property, wherein the set of survey data indicates a plurality of pavements defect of the paved property based at least in part on the path of travel of the data collection device at the property;
- storing a plurality of different treatment approaches on a pavement defect management computing system comprising at least one processor;
- receiving, by the processor, the set of survey data from the data collection device;
- for each of the plurality of pavements defects indicated by the set of survey data, determining whether that pavement defect is a linear pavement defect or a polygon pavement defect based at least in part on the path of travel of the data collection device at the property associated with that pavement defect;
- determining, by the processor and based on the survey data, one or more characteristics for each of the plurality of pavement defects, wherein the one or more characteristics comprise a defect length for each of the one or more linear pavement defects, and a defect area for each of the one or more polygon pavement defects;
- selecting, by the processor, a treatment approach from the plurality of treatment approaches for each of the plurality of pavement defects, wherein for each of the plurality of pavement defects, the selected treatment approach is based at least partially on the one or more characteristics of that pavement defect;
