Proposal region filter for digital image processing

An apparatus for generating a filtered set of region proposals for a digital image processing network, the apparatus comprising:

• at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium;
• and
• instructions stored at last partially in the computer-readable storage medium, wherein the instructions, when executed by a data processing system (DPS), enable the DPS to:
• generate a keypoint count map for a digital image, wherein the keypoint count map indicates how many keypoints have been detected near different pixels in the digital image;
• generate a keypoint integral image, wherein the keypoint integral image includes a summed area table that is based on the keypoint count map;
• generate object existence indicators for an initial region set for the digital image based on the keypoint integral image;
• and
• extract a keypoint-filtered region set from the initial region set based on the object existence indicators.

A method for generating a filtered set of region proposals for a digital image processing network, the method comprising:

• generating a keypoint count map for a digital image, wherein the keypoint count map indicates how many keypoints have been detected near different pixels in the digital image;
• generating a keypoint integral image, wherein the keypoint integral image includes a summed area table that is based on the keypoint count map;
• generating object existence indicators for an initial region set for the digital image based on the keypoint integral image;
• and
• extracting a keypoint-filtered region set from the initial region set based on the object existence indicators.
