Abstract
A reliable network function virtualization (rVNF) system includes a virtualized network function (VNF) application instance that includes a plurality of physical VNF instances. A load balancer provides an interface between a client and the VNF application instance. A load balancer interface facilitates delivery of packets related to a particular user context to the same physical VNF instance. A communication interface facilitates communication between the client and the VNF application instance. Application storage stores session data associated with the VNF application instance.
Claims19
A reliable network function virtualization (rVNF) system for a cloud computing system, comprising:
- a virtualized network function (VNF) application instance that comprises a plurality of physical VNF instances;
- a load balancer that provides an interface between a client and the VNF application instance;
- a load balancer interface that facilitates delivery of packets related to a particular user context to a same physical VNF instance, wherein the load balancer interface comprises a non-transactional key-value store;
- a communication interface that facilitates communication between the client and the VNF application instance;
- and
- application storage that stores session data associated with the VNF application instance wherein the application storage comprises a transactional key-value store.
A method for providing a reliable virtualized network function (rVNF) system for a cloud computing system, comprising:
- providing a virtualized network function (VNF) application instance that comprises a plurality of physical VNF instances;
- providing an interface between a client and the VNF application instance;
- facilitating delivery of packets related to a particular user context to a same physical VNF instance;
- implementing a virtualized transport protocol that shares states and functionality across different physical VNF instances;
- storing session data associated with the VNF application instance in a transactional key-value store;
- and
- inferring transactions from locking application programming interface (API) calls and commit states.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions stored thereon that, when executed, cause one or more processors to:
- provide a virtualized network function (VNF) application instance that comprises a plurality of physical VNF instances;
- provide an interface between a client and the VNF application instance;
- facilitate delivery of packets related to a particular user context to a same physical VNF instance;
- implement a virtualized transport protocol that shares states and functionality across different physical VNF instances;
- store session data associated with the VNF application instance in a transactional key-value store (KVS);
- create a list of local copies of accessed key and value pairs at a start of a transaction;
- and
- make any modifications to the accessed key and value pairs in the list of local copies until the transaction is committed.
