Abstract
Techniques and mechanisms described herein include a signal processor implemented as an overlay on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) device that utilizes special purpose, hardened intellectual property (IP) modules such as memory blocks and digital signal processing (DSP) cores. A Processing Element (PE) is built from one or more DSP cores connected to additional logic. Interconnected as an array, the PEs may operate in a computational model such as Single Instruction-Multiple Thread (SIMT). A software hierarchy is described that transforms the SIMT array into an effective signal processor.
Claims20
A data processing system comprising:
- a plurality of processing elements operating in a Single Instruction, Multiple Data (SIMD) configuration;
- and
- a plurality of connections between the processing elements, wherein each processing element can directly access memory elements of a logically nearby processing element or elements,
- wherein the processing elements are arranged in a grid having one or more dimensions, and wherein a length of the grid along one dimension is greater than the length of the grid along the other dimensions, wherein the one or more dimensions are data dependent to match the dimensions of incoming data, wherein new data is loaded into the processing elements along the greater length dimension.
A data processing system comprising:
- a plurality of processing elements operating in a Single Instruction, Multiple Data (SIMD) configuration;
- and
- a plurality of connections between the processing elements, wherein each processing element can directly access memory elements of a logically nearby processing element or elements,
- wherein the processing elements are arranged in a grid having one or more dimensions, the one or more dimensions being data dependent to match the dimensions of incoming data, wherein the processing elements are configured to process input data to produce a result and store the result in an output bus, the result being normalized by extracting a contiguous subset of the bits from the output bus.
A data processing system comprising:
- a plurality of processing elements operating in a Single Instruction, Multiple Data (SIMD) configuration;
- and
- a plurality of connections between the processing elements, wherein each processing element can directly access memory elements of a logically nearby processing element or elements,
- wherein the processing elements are arranged in a grid having a first dimension and a second dimension, and wherein a length of the grid along the second dimension is greater than a length of the grid along the first dimension, wherein the first and second dimensions are data dependent to match the dimensions of incoming data, wherein the data processing system is configured to process input data arranged in an array, wherein the subarray size is configured using the width of the input data and a height required to match a spatial aperture of an algorithm set to be executed in order to substantially eliminate redundant processing.
