Abstract
An electronic device determines information about a target and provides the information to another electronic device that has an obstructed view of the target. The other electronic device displays an image of the target with an orientation and a location of the target.
Claims18
A method comprising:
- obtaining, with a first head mounted display (HMD) worn on a head of a first user at a location with an object, a global positioning system (GPS) location of the first user, a compass direction from the first user to the object, and an image of the object;
- determining, from the GPS location and the compass direction and the image, where the object would be visible to a second user at the location if the object were not obstructed by an obstructing object that prevents the second user from seeing the object with a naked eye;
- displaying, on a display of a second HMD worn on a head of the second user and while the obstructing object obstructs the object from being visible with the naked eye of the second user, an augmented reality (AR) image of the object at the location that matches where the object would be visible to the naked eye of the second user if the object were not obstructed by the obstructing object;
- and
- rotating an orientation of the AR image being displayed on the display of the second HMD to match real-time movements of the object while the obstructing object obstructs the object from being visible with the naked eye of the second user.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions that cause one or more processors to execute a method comprising:
- obtaining, with a first head mounted display (HMD) worn on a head of a first user, a global positioning system (GPS) location of the first user, a compass direction from the first user to a person, and a distance from the first user to the person;
- determining, from the GPS location and the compass direction and the distance, where the person would be visible to a second user if the person were not obstructed by an obstructing object that prevents the second user from seeing the person with a naked eye;
- displaying, on a display of a second HMD worn on a head of the second user and while the obstructing object prevents the second user from seeing the person with the naked eye, an augmented reality (AR) image at a location that is where the person would be visible to the naked eye of the second user if the obstructing object did not prevent the second user from seeing the person with the naked eye;
- and
- moving, while the obstructing object obstructs the second user from seeing the person with the naked eye, the virtual image of the person in synchronization to coincide with real-time movements of the person.
2 more elements
An electronic system, comprising:
- a first head mounted display (HMD) worn on a head of a first user that includes or wirelessly communicates with electronics that determine a global positioning system (GPS) location of the first user, a compass direction from the first user to a person, and a distance from the first user to the person;
- one or more electronic devices that calculate, from the GPS location and the compass direction and the distance, where the person would be visible to a second user if the person were not obstructed by an obstructing object that prevents the second user from seeing the person with a naked eye;
- and
- a second HMD worn on a head of the second user that displays, while the obstructing object prevents the second user from seeing the person with the naked eye, a virtual image at a location that is where the person would be visible to the naked eye of the second user if the obstructing object did not prevent the second user from seeing the person with the naked eye, wherein the second HMD displays the virtual image as the person and moves the virtual image of the person, while the obstructing object obstructs the second user from seeing the person with the naked eye, in synchronization to coincide with real-time movements of the person.
