## Abstract

A visor for use in a vehicle is disclosed. The visor comprises a pivot rod and a first and second shell being engagable to form a visor body. The visor also comprises a vanity and a mirror having at least one clear portion arranged at or near an end thereof. The visor also comprises a circuit board secured to the first shell and a light emitting diode secured to a surface of the circuit board. The visor also comprises a ramp arranged in a back surface of the mirror wherein the ramp is aligned with at least one clear portion of the mirror. The visor mirror having a ramp arranged therein may allow for light to be redirected towards the user of the mirror from the LED.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A mirror, said mirror comprising:
a predetermined shape body having a first end and a second end, said body having total internal reflection, said body having a transition area with a single triangular shape at one of said ends, said transition area having an included angle between approximately forty eight degrees and approximately one hundred twenty degrees;
a light emitting portion arranged at or near said first end of said body; and
a ramp arranged in a back surface of said body, said ramp aligned with said light emitting portion.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The mirror of claim 1 wherein said body having a second ramp arranged in said back surface at or near said second end.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The mirror of claim 1 wherein said body is solid and made of a plastic with a predetermined length, width and thickness.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The mirror of claim 1 wherein said ramp having a first inward extending surface with a predetermined angle from said back surface.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The mirror of claim 4 wherein said first inward extending surface extends a first distance into said back surface of said mirror.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The mirror of claim 5 wherein said ramp having a second inward extending surface with a predetermined angle from said back surface, said second inward extending surface and said first inward extending surface meet at said first distance of said back surface of said mirror.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The mirror of claim 1 wherein said ramp having a smooth, rippled or ridged surface.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The mirror of claim 1 wherein said ramp having a predetermined color.

### Claim 9 (depends on 2)

The mirror of claim 2 wherein said second ramp having a first inward extending surface with a predetermined angle from said back surface, said first inward extending surface extends a second distance into said back surface of said mirror.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The mirror of claim 9 wherein said second ramp having a second inward extending surface with a predetermined angle from said back surface, said first inward extending surface and said second inward extending surface meet at said second distance.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The mirror of claim 1 wherein said ramp extends between a generally top and bottom edge of said mirror.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The mirror of claim 1 wherein said ramp redirects a predetermined amount of light entering through said first end of said body through a front surface of said mirror at said light emitting portion thereof.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The mirror of claim 12 wherein said ramp redirects a predetermined amount of light entering through said second end of said body through said front surface of said mirror at a second light emitting portion thereof.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The mirror of claim 12 wherein approximately one half of said predetermined amount of light is redirected by said first ramp.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The mirror of claim 14 comprising a second ramp arranged in said back surface of said body, said second ramp redirects other approximately one half of said predetermined amount of light through said front surface of said mirror at a second light emitting portion thereof.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The mirror of claim 1 wherein said first end having said a transition area with a light entry point at an end thereof.

### Claim 17 (depends on 1)

The mirror of claim 1 further comprising at least one notch arranged near said first end on an edge of said body.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

The mirror of claim 16 further comprising a second transition area arranged on said second end of said body, said second transition area having a second light entry point.

### Claim 19

A method of illuminating a mirror, said method comprising the steps of:
cutting or molding optical features into a back surface of the mirror, the mirror having total internal reflection, said optical features define light emitting areas of the mirror, said mirror having a transition area with a single triangular shape at an end, said transition area having an included angle between approximately forty eight degrees and approximately one hundred twenty degrees; and
using light from a single LED for emission through said light emitting areas of the mirror toward a user of the mirror.

### Claim 20

A visor for use in a vehicle, said visor comprising:
a pivot rod;
a first and second shell being engageable to form a visor body;
a vanity;
a mirror having at least one light emitting portion arranged at or near an end thereof, said mirror having total internal reflection, said body having a transition area with a single triangular shape at one of said ends, said transition area having an included angle between approximately forty eight degrees and approximately one hundred twenty degrees;
a circuit board secured to said first shell;
a light emitting diode connected to said circuit board; and
a ramp arranged in a back surface of said mirror, said ramp aligned with said at least one light emitting portion of said mirror.
