## Abstract

Methods and compositions utilizing 2-aminoindan derivatives collectively represented by Formula I as described and defined in the specification for regulating binge behavior, particularly binge drinking, are disclosed.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of regulating binge behavior, the method comprising administrating to a subject in need thereof a compound represented by Formula I:
wherein:
each of R1 and R2 is independently selected from the group consisting of H, (C1-C8)alkyl, (C2-C4)alkenyl, (C2-C8)alkynyl, (C3-C8)cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, heteroalicyclic, —O(C1-C6)alkyl, OH, —OS(═O)2CF3, —OS(═O)2—(C1-C6)alkyl, —S(═O)R5, —CO2R5, —CONR5R6, —COR5, —CF3, CN, —SR5, —SO2NR5R6, —SO2R5, —OCO—(C1-C6)alkyl, —NCO—(C1-C6)alkyl, —CH2O—(C1-C6)alkyl, —(C1-C6)alkyl-OH, and halogen, or, alternatively, R1 and R2 together with two or more of the phenyl carbon atoms form a X1—(CR5R6)m—X2— ring, wherein each of X1 and X2 is independently selected from O, NH or S and m is 1, 2, 3, or 4;
each of R3 and R4 is independently selected from the group consisting of H, (C1-C8)alkyl, (C2-C8)alkenyl, (C2-C8)alkynyl, (C3-C8) cycloalkyl, and —(CH2)p-thienyl, wherein p is 1, 2, 3, or 4, or alternatively, R3 and R4 are joined together to form a heterocylic ring (heteroalicyclic or heteroaryl) containing the nitrogen atom to which they are attached; and
each of R5 and R6 is independently selected from the group consisting of H, (C1-C8)alkyl, (C2-C8)alkenyl, (C3-C8)cycloalkyl and aryl,
thereby regulating the binge behavior,
wherein at least one of R3 and R4 is H, and wherein the compound of Formula I is selected from:
5-methoxy-2-aminoindan;
5,6-dimethoxy-2-aminoindan;
5-methoxy-2-(N-propylamino)indan;
5,6-dimethoxy-2-(N-propylamino)indan; 5-(trifluoromethylsulfonyloxy)-2-(N-propylamino)indan;
5,6-(di-trifluoromethylsulfonyloxy)-2-(N-propylamino)Indan; and
5,6-dimethoxy-2(pyrrolidino)indan.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein said binge behavior is associated with alcohol consumption, eating, tobacco consumption, shopping or sexual conduct.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein said binge behavior is binge drinking.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein said compound forms a part of a composition, which further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein said composition is in a form of a free-flowing powder, a tablet, a capsule, a lozenge, a liquid, a liquid concentrate or a syrup.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein said composition is a unit dosage form composition.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein an amount of said compound in said unit dosage form ranges from 30 mg to 130 mg.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, wherein said amount of said compound is 70 mg.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein said compound or composition is administered to a subject orally.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the compound of Formula I is 5-methoxy-2-aminoindan.

### Claim 11

A pharmaceutical composition comprising 5-methoxy-2-aminoindan,
the composition being formulated for oral administration, and being a liquid unit dosage form composition.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The pharmaceutical composition of claim 11, being packaged as a single unit dose or as a plurality of single unit doses.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The pharmaceutical composition of claim 11, wherein said unit dosage form comprises from 30 mg to 130 mg of said compound.
