Abstract
System, including methods and apparatus, for optical detection. The system may comprise a light source to generate a beam of light, an optical element including a light guide and an exit window, and at least one detector.
Claims19
A system for optical detection, comprising:
- a light source configured to generate a beam of light to illuminate a sample located in an examination region;
- an optical element including a light guide and an exit window, wherein the optical element extends into the beam upstream of the examination region, such that at least a portion of the light guide is located inside the beam and the exit window is located outside the beam, wherein a portion of light of the beam incident on the light guide is transmitted longitudinally through the light guide and out the exit window, and wherein another portion of light of the beam incident on the light guide propagates across the light guide and remains in the beam downstream of the light guide;
- a first detector configured to detect light from the exit window;
- and
- a second detector configured to detect light from the examination region;
- and
- wherein the optical element includes a base that supports the light guide and provides the exit window, wherein the base is wider than and formed integrally with the light guide, and wherein the exit window is a surface region of the base.

- a detector configured to detect light from the exit window;
- and
- a processor configured to control an intensity of the light beam in a feedback loop including the detector, to reduce fluctuation in the intensity of the light beam;
- and
- wherein the optical element includes a base that supports the light guide and provides the exit window, wherein the base is wider than and formed integrally with the light guide, and wherein the exit window is a surface region of the base.
4 more elements
A method of controlling light intensity using an optical element that includes a light guide and a base that supports the light guide and provides a surface region forming an exit window, the base being wider than and formed integrally with the light guide, the method comprising:
- generating a beam of light intersecting the light guide such that a portion of light of the beam is transmitted longitudinally through the light guide and out of the exit window;
- detecting light from the exit window to create a signal;
- and
- controlling an intensity of the beam based on the signal to reduce fluctuation of the intensity of the beam.
