Abstract
A fixation device for securing a linear element to a workpiece includes a contact component and a fixation component. The contact component typically includes (i) a first contact surface for application to a workpiece and (ii) a first opening for receiving a linear element. The fixation component typically secures a portion of the linear element on a side of the first contact component opposite the first contact surface. The fixation component engages the contact component to prevent passage of the linear element's secured portion through the workpiece when a tension is applied to the linear element in a direction opposite the contact surface.
Claims24
A method of at least securing a linear element to first and second fixation devices, comprising:
- having the first and second fixation devices in a first configuration, wherein each of the first and second fixation devices comprises a fixation component connected to a contact component, and in the first configuration the fixation components are positioned between the contact components;
- and
- then providing a second configuration, comprising:
- securing first and second portions of the linear element respectively to the fixation components,
- arranging the linear element so that third and fourth portions of the linear element respectively extend from the first and second portions of the linear element, and
- separating the first and second portions of the linear element from one another, wherein the linear element is a suture strand.
A method of at least securing a linear element to first and second fixation devices, comprising:
- having the first and second fixation devices in a first configuration, wherein each of the first and second fixation devices comprises a fixation component connected to a contact component, and in the first configuration the fixation components are positioned between the contact components;
- and
- then providing a second configuration, comprising:
- securing first and second portions of the linear element respectively to the fixation components,
- arranging the linear element so that third and fourth portions of the linear element respectively extend from the first and second portions of the linear element, and
- separating the first and second portions of the linear element from one another,
- wherein the securing of the first and second portions of the linear element respectively to the fixation components is comprised of adhering with adhesive material.
A method of at least securing a linear element to first and second fixation devices, comprising:
- having the first and second fixation devices in a first configuration, wherein each of the first and second fixation devices comprises a fixation component connected to a contact component, and in the first configuration the fixation components are positioned between the contact components;
- then providing a second configuration, comprising:
- securing first and second portions of the linear element respectively to the fixation components,
- arranging the linear element so that third and fourth portions of the linear element respectively extend from the first and second portions of the linear element, and
- separating the first and second portions of the linear element from one another;
- passing the first, second, and third portions of the linear element through a workpiece so that at least a portion of the fourth portion of the linear element is positioned in the workpiece;
- and
- engaging the contact component of the second fixation device against the workpiece prior to the separating of the first and second portions of the linear element from one another, and
- wherein the workpiece comprises tissue associated with a wound.
A method of at least securing a linear element to first and second fixation devices, comprising:
- having an article comprising both of the first and second fixation devices in a connected-together configuration, wherein:
- the article comprises a middle section positioned between, and connected to each of, first and second lateral sections,
- the middle section comprises first and second fixation components that are connected to one another in the connected-together configuration,
- the first fixation device comprises the first fixation component connected to the first lateral section, and
- the second fixation device comprises the second fixation component connected to the second lateral section;
- and
- then providing a second configuration, comprising:
- securing first and second portions of the linear element respectively to the first and second fixation components,
- arranging the linear element so that third and fourth portions of the linear element respectively extend from the first and second portions of the linear element,
- separating the first and second fixation components from one another, and
- separating the first and second portions of the linear element from one another,
- wherein the linear element is a suture strand.
A method of at least securing a linear element to first and second fixation devices, comprising:
- having an article comprising both of the first and second fixation devices in a connected-together configuration, wherein:
- the article comprises a middle section positioned between, and connected to each of, first and second lateral sections,
- the middle section comprises first and second fixation components that are connected to one another in the connected-together configuration,
- the first fixation device comprises the first fixation component connected to the first lateral section, and
- the second fixation device comprises the second fixation component connected to the second lateral section;
- then providing a second configuration, comprising:
- securing first and second portions of the linear element respectively to the first and second fixation components,
- arranging the linear element so that third and fourth portions of the linear element respectively extend from the first and second portions of the linear element,
- separating the first and second fixation components from one another, and
- separating the first and second portions of the linear element from one another;
- passing the first, second, and third portions of the linear element through a workpiece so that at least a portion of the fourth portion of the linear element is positioned in the workpiece;
- and
- engaging the second lateral section against the workpiece prior to:
- the separating of the first and second portions of the linear element from one another, and
- the separating of the first and second fixation components from one another;
- wherein the workpiece comprises tissue associated with a wound.
