Abstract
Mixing devices and associated methods are described herein. Various embodiments of mixing devices can comprise a plate configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis and a plurality of enclosures coupled to the plate. The enclosures can each include (a) at least one sidewall that defines an oblique angle with the plate and (b) a chamber configured to receive a media and a fluid. The enclosures can be fluidly coupled to a fluid source for receiving the fluid in the chambers. When the plate is rotated, the enclosures revolve about the longitudinal axis to mix the media with the fluid in the chambers.
Claims21
A mixing device, comprising:
- a spindle configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis;
- and
- a chamber assembly including—
- a plate coupled to the spindle;
- and
- an enclosure coupled to an outer peripheral portion of the plate and radially outward of the spindle, wherein the enclosure defines a chamber configured to receive a media, wherein the enclosure includes at least one sidewall that is obliquely angled relative to the plate, and wherein rotation of the spindle drives the plate to rotate and the enclosure to revolve about the longitudinal axis to move the media within the chamber,
- wherein the spindle extends at least between end portions of the chamber assembly.
A mixing device, comprising:
- a chamber assembly including a plate configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis, and a plurality of enclosures each coupled to an outer peripheral portion of the plate and radially outward of the longitudinal axis, wherein—
- individual ones of the enclosures include (a) at least one sidewall that defines an oblique angle with the plate and (b) a chamber configured to receive a media and a fluid,
- the enclosures are configured to receive a continuous supply of fluid from a fluid source, and
- rotation of the plate revolves the enclosures about the longitudinal axis to mix the media with the fluid in the chambers;
- and
- a spindle coupled to the chamber assembly and extending at least between end portions of the chamber assembly along the longitudinal axis.
A method of mixing a media with a fluid, the method comprising:
- disposing the media within a chamber of an enclosure of a chamber assembly, wherein the enclosure is coupled to an outer peripheral portion of a plate at an oblique angle and radially outward of a spindle coupled to the plate, the spindle extending at least between end portions of the chamber assembly;
- supplying the fluid to the chamber;
- and
- driving the spindle to thereby rotate the plate and revolve the enclosure about a longitudinal axis to mix the media with the fluid in the chamber.
