System and method to obtain content and generate modified content based on time limited content information

A method comprising:

• receiving, at a server, a first content item and a second content item from a content source, the first content item distinct from the second content item;
• identifying, at the server, an availability time window for a user;
• determining, at the server, a playback time limit based on the availability time window;
• converting, at the server, the first content item from a first format to a second format based on a user preference associated with the first content item;
• combining and filtering a first portion of the first content item and a second portion of the second content item to generate a modified content item having a reduced playback duration less than or equal to the playback time limit;
• initiating transmission of the modified content item from the server to a first device;
• and
• after a first portion of the modified content item is transmitted, initiating transmission of a second portion of the modified content item from the server to a second device distinct from the first device, the second portion of the modified content item in time subsequent to the first portion of the modified content item in a playback order of the modified content item.

A computer-readable storage device storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations, the operations including:

• receiving a first content item;
• receiving a second content item, the second content item distinct from the first content item;
• identifying an availability time window for a user;
• determining a playback time limit based on the availability time window;
• converting the first content item from a first format to a second format based on a user preference associated with the first content item;
• combining and filtering a first portion of the first content item and a second portion of the second content item to generate a modified content item having a reduced playback duration less than or equal to the playback time limit;
• initiating transmission of the modified content item to a first device;
• and
• after a first portion of the modified content item is transmitted, initiating transmission of a second portion of the modified content item to a second device distinct from the first device, the second portion of the modified content item subsequent in time to the first portion of the modified content item in a playback order of the modified content item.
