## Abstract

An electrically isolated coupler may include a driven body, a drive body and an insulating member. The drive body is made of first metallic material and has a driven end configured to interface with a fastening component. The driven body includes a first interface portion and the drive body includes a second interface portion. The drive body is made of a second metallic material and has a drive end configured to interface with a driving tool. The insulating member is disposed between the drive body and the driven body to electrically isolate the drive body and the driven body from each. The first interface portion includes at least one axially extending portion that extends toward the drive body, and the second interface portion includes at least one axially extending portion that extends toward the driven body. The insulating member is disposed between the respective at least one axially extending portions of the first and second interface portions.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An electrically isolated coupler comprising:
a driven body made of first metallic material and having a driven end configured to interface with a fastening component, the driven body comprising a first interface portion;
a drive body made of a second metallic material and having a drive end configured to interface with a driving tool, the drive body comprising a second interface portion; and
an insulating member disposed between the drive body and the driven body to electrically isolate the drive body and the driven body from each other,
wherein the first interface portion includes at least one axially extending portion that extends toward the drive body, and the second interface portion includes at least one axially extending portion that extends toward the driven body,
wherein the insulating member is disposed between the respective at least one axially extending portions of the first and second interface portions,
wherein a sleeve is disposed around radial edges of the drive body, the driven body and the insulating member, and
wherein the sleeve is rotatable relative to the drive body and the driven body.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 1, wherein the sleeve comprises an overlap portion disposed to engage a beveled edge provided on the drive body or the driven body to prevent axial separation of the drive body from the driven body.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 1, wherein the sleeve includes an inwardly facing annular projection, and the drive body includes an annular groove, the annular projection being operably coupled to the annular groove to enable the sleeve to rotate relative to the drive body and the driven body.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 1, wherein the driven body is tapered toward a driven end of the driven body.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 1, wherein the driven body comprises a socket of a predetermined size.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 1, wherein the drive body further comprises an annular groove disposed proximate to the drive end.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 6, wherein the annular groove includes a through-hole.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 1, wherein the electrically isolated coupler comprises a bit holder.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 1, wherein the drive body defines a pattern and the insulating member is molded to fit the pattern between the drive body and corresponding axially extending portions of the driven body.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 1, wherein the second interface portion extends at least partially around a drive mating structure of the drive body.

### Claim 11

An electrically isolated coupler comprising:
a driven body made of first metallic material and having a driven end configured to interface with a fastening component, the driven body comprising a first interface portion;
a drive body made of a second metallic material and having a drive end configured to interface with a driving tool, the drive body comprising a second interface portion; and
an insulating member disposed between the drive body and the driven body to electrically isolate the drive body and the driven body from each other,
wherein the first interface portion includes at least one axially extending portion that extends toward the drive body, and the second interface portion includes at least one axially extending portion that extends toward the driven body,
wherein the insulating member is disposed between the respective at least one axially extending portions of the first and second interface portions,
wherein the insulating member comprises a binding portion disposed to extend into a portion of the drive body or the driven body to prevent axial separation of the drive body from the driven body, and
wherein binding portion has an annular shape due to the provision of an annular groove at the first interface portion or the second interface portion.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The electrically isolated coupler of claim 11, wherein the second interface portion extends at least partially around a drive mating structure of the drive body.

### Claim 13

An electrically isolated coupler comprising:
a driven body made of first metallic material and having a driven end configured to interface with a fastening component, the driven body comprising a first interface portion;
a drive body made of a second metallic material and having a drive end configured to interface with a driving tool, the drive body comprising a second interface portion; and
an insulating member disposed between the drive body and the driven body to electrically isolate the drive body and the driven body from each other,
