## Abstract

A method for delaying the progression or preventing Diabetic Kidney Disease by administering to a subject in need a composition containing a therapeutically effective amount of a hyaluronan synthesis inhibitor such as 4-Methylumbelliferone.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for delaying the progression of Diabetic Kidney Disease through the inhibition of hyaluronan synthesis in a subject in need thereof, wherein said method comprises the administration to said subject of a composition containing a therapeutically effective amount of at least one active agent from the Coumarin group (4-Methylumbelliferone, a 4-Methylumbelliferone metabolite, or a salt thereof) that reduces the amount of hyaluronans in diabetic kidneys.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the active agent in said composition is administered orally, or parenterally.
