## Abstract

The invention provides compositions that increase the mobilization, homing, expansion, and/or differentiation of stem cells and methods of using the same for the treatment of mammals.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A composition, comprising:
a low molecular weight fraction of a human serum albumin pharmaceutical composition comprising aspartyl-alanyl diketopiperazine (DA-DKP), N-acetyl tryptophan, and caprylate and/or caprylic acid, wherein:
albumin has been removed by filtration;
the molecular weight of the fraction is less than 5000;
the fraction comprises DA-DKP; and
a cell culture medium supplemented with said supplement is capable of supporting the expansion of stem cells.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, further comprising stem cells in a serum-free media.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the low molecular weight fraction of the human serum albumin pharmaceutical composition is prepared by heating human serum albumin under conditions effective to cause the formation of DA-DKP.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the low molecular weight fraction of the human serum albumin pharmaceutical composition is prepared by contacting human serum albumin with an enzyme that cleaves the two N-terminal amino acids of human albumin under conditions effective to produce DA-DKP.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the DA-DKP is synthetic.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The composition of claim 2, wherein the stem cells are selected from the group consisting of progenitor cells and mesenchymal stem cells.
