## Abstract

The invention discloses the use of sedoheptulose as a nutritional supplement.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
obtaining sedoheptulose; and
administering said sedoheptulose to a subject, wherein the sedoheptulose is comprised in a nutritional supplement,
wherein the nutritional supplement comprises a ratio of C6-carbohydrates to C7-carbohydrates in % w/w:% w/w, % w/v:% w/v, or as molar ratio that is below 3000:1.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the nutritional supplement can treat a sedoheptulose deficiency in a healthy individual.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the nutritional supplement balances C6-overconsumption and/or cellular glucose consumption in a healthy individual.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the nutritional supplement optimizes and strengthens energy utilization in a healthy individual.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the nutritional supplement comprises a ratio of C6-carbohydrates to C7-carbohydrates in % w/w:% w/w, % w/v:% w/v, or as molar ratio that is below 1:1.

### Claim 6

A food product comprising an added nutritional supplement comprising sedoheptulose of at least 60% purity, wherein said food product comprises a ratio of C6-carbohydrates to C7-carbohydrates in % w/w:% w/w, % w/v:% w/v, or as molar ratio that is below 3000:1.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The food product of claim 6, wherein the sedoheptulose content of the food product is increased by the added nutritional supplement compared to the food product without added nutritional supplement in its sedoheptulose content by at least 100% w/w.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The food product of claim 6, wherein the sedoheptulose content of the food product is at least 1% w/w.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The food product of claim 8, wherein the sedoheptulose content of the food product is at least 10% w/w.

### Claim 10 (depends on 6)

The food product of claim 6, further defined as a nutritional drink, a nutritional snack bar, a diet food product, a cereal food product, a soft drink, a sports drink, an energy drink, a nutritional sweetener, a candy, a pastry, a milk product, a spread, or a functional food product.

The food product of claim 6, further defined as a soft drink.

A nutritional supplement comprising sedoheptulose of at least 60% purity, wherein said nutritional supplement comprises a ratio of C6-carbohydrates to C7-carbohydrates in % w/w:% w/w, % w/v:% w/v, or as molar ratio that is below 3000:1.

The nutritional supplement of claim 13, wherein said nutritional supplement comprises a ratio of C6-carbohydrates to C7-carbohydrates in % w/w:% w/w, % w/v:% w/v, or as molar ratio that is below 1:1.

### Claim 15

A method comprising:
obtaining sedoheptulose; and
administering said sedoheptulose to a subject, wherein:
the sedoheptulose is comprised in a nutritional supplement,
the nutritional supplement comprises a food product, and
the food product has been analysed with respect to its content in % w/w, % w/v, or molar concentration of C6-carbohydrate and with respect to its content in % w/w, % w/v, or molar concentration of C7-carbohydrate to establish a ratio of C6-carbohydrates to C7-carbohydrates in % w/w:% w/w %, w/v:% w/v or as a molar ratio for this food product and sedoheptulose has been added to the food product in an amount to decrease the ratio of C6-carbohydrates to C7-carbohydrates by at least 50%.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15, wherein the sedoheptulose has been added to a food product already containing sedoheptulose to obtain a sedoheptulose content of the food product that is increased at least 10%.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein the sedoheptulose has been added to the food product to obtain a sedoheptulose content of the food product that is increased at least 100%.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The method of claim 17, wherein the sedoheptulose has been added to the food product to obtain a sedoheptulose content of the food product that is at least 0.1% w/w.

### Claim 19 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15, wherein the food product is a liquid.

### Claim 20 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15, wherein the sedoheptulose has been added to the food product in an amount to decrease the ratio of C6-carbohydrates to C7-carbohydrates by at least 100%.
