Abstract
The present invention relates to novel sulfoperoxycarboxylic acid compounds, and methods for making and using them. The sulfoperoxycarboxylic compounds of the invention are storage stable, water soluble and have low to no odor. Further, the compounds of the present invention can be formed from non-petroleum based renewable materials. The compounds of the present invention can be used as antimicrobials, and bleaching agents. The compounds of the present invention are also suitable for use as coupling agents.
Claims14
A method of sanitizing the interior of a metal, aluminum, steel, glass or plastic, food or beverage container in aseptic cold filling operations comprising:
- contacting the interior of said container with a sulfoperoxycarboxylic acid, by spraying, dipping said container into a solution or filling the container with a solution, wherein the sulfoperoxycarboxylic acid is one or more of the following:
- for a sufficient time to reduce microorganism population within said container;
- emptying said container of said compound;
- and
- rinsing said container with water, and thereafter
- emptying the container again so that said fungal microorganisms of the Genus Chaetomium, or Arthrinium, Bacillis or other bacteria, are reduced by more than a 5 log 10 reduction.
A method of treating water to remove organisms and to reduce odor comprising,
- contacting the water with a sulfoperoxycarboxylic acid of the following formula:
- and/or mixtures thereof.
A medicinal or veterinary antimicrobial product comprising:
- a composition comprising a sulfoperoxycarboxylic acid, wherein the sulfoperoxycarboxylic acid is:
- and mixtures thereof, and;
- b) a carrier.
