Abstract
A method for manufacturing a rotor includes the following operations: the clamping of a workpiece in a grinding machine; the performance of one or more cylindrical grinding operations whereby a rotor shaft section is ground to the desired diameter with a cylindrical grinding disk; the performance of one more profile grinding operations whereby a rotor body is profiled with a profile grinding disk. During the manufacture of the rotor in the grinding machine, the workpiece is not undamped and the cylindrical grinding operations and the profile grinding operations are done with the same grinding machine.
Claims22
A grinding machine for manufacturing a screw rotor, the grinding machine comprising:
- a clamp configured to clamp a workpiece that has already been partially processed to have a shape of a rotor;
- one or more grinding spindles;
- one or more interchangeable cylindrical grinding disks configured to be affixed and removed from the one or more grinding spindles;
- interchangeable profile grinding disks including a coarse profile grinding disk and a fine profile grinding disk each of the profile grinding disks being configured to be affixed and removed from one of the one or more grinding spindles, each of the profile grinding disks having a curved profile;
- a control configured to automatically control grinding operations of the grinding machine to manufacture the rotor;
- and
- wherein the same grinding machine is configured to perform both one or more cylindrical grinding operations and one or more profile grinding operations by the control controlling switching between a first operating mode for grinding with the one or more cylindrical grinding disks and a second operating mode for grinding with the profile grinding disks,
- wherein the control controls the grinding machine such that the one or more cylindrical grinding operations includes cylindrically grinding with the one or more cylindrical grinding disks a first section on a first end of the workpiece to obtain a cylindrical clamping surface that is centered with respect to a centre line of the workpiece along a longitudinal axis of the workpiece, and
- wherein the clamp performs a first clamping of the workpiece, the first clamping being an initial clamping of the workpiece,
- wherein the clamp is configured to perform a second clamping of the workpiece at the first end on the cylindrical clamping surface to provide rotational support to the workpiece during the one or more profile grinding operations by controlling rotation of the workpiece about the longitudinal axis of the workpiece during the profile grinding operation,
- wherein the control controls the one or more profile grinding operations to include a first profile grinding operation that includes a coarse profile grinding operation using the coarse profile grinding disk to obtain on the workpiece a coarsely ground rotor body having a coarsely finished spiral toothing,
- wherein the control controls the one or more profile grinding operation to include a second profile grinding operation that includes a fine profile grinding operation using the fine profile grinding disk to obtain on the workpiece a finely ground rotor body having a finely finished spiral toothing, and
- wherein, after both said first profile grinding operation and said second profile grinding operation have been performed, the control controls the grinding machine to perform a second cylindrical grinding operation that includes grinding with the one or more cylindrical grinding disks one or more rotor shaft sections or the cylindrical clamping surface.
