Large diameter travelling pipe cutter

A travelling pipe cutter adapted to perform at least one of cutting and beveling a hollow vessel while traveling around the hollow vessel, comprising:

• a carriage;
• a plurality of wheels mounted on the carriage to provide for translation of the travelling pipe cutter around the hollow vessel;
• a housing mounted on the carriage;
• a first spindle mounted in the housing;
• a first left-hand gear mounted on the first spindle and adapted for rotation with the first spindle;
• a first right-hand gear mounted on the first spindle and adapted for rotation with the first spindle;
• a motor mounted on the carriage and adapted to rotate the first spindle, the first left-hand gear and the first right-hand gear;
• a second spindle mounted in the housing;
• a cutting tool mounted on the second spindle;
• a second left-hand gear mounted on the second spindle and adapted for rotation with the second spindle;
• a second right-hand gear mounted on the second spindle and adapted for rotation with the second spindle;
• a plurality of needle roller bearings engaging the second spindle and the housing;
• and
• a nut positioned on the second spindle to hold the needle roller bearings and second gears onto the second spindle, and
• wherein the first left-hand gear intermeshes with the second right-hand gear, and the first right-hand gear intermeshes with the second left-hand gear.
