A method of treating autoimmune inflammatory ulcerative colitis consisting essentially of administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a leukotoxin comprising SEQ ID NO:
- 1, wherein the ulcerative colitis is characterized by an influx of immune cells into the intestines and activation of leukocytes that express upregulated and activated leukocytes function antigen (LFA-1) on their surface to which the leukotoxin specifically binds.
