Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for operating a driveline of a hybrid vehicle powertrain, where the driveline includes an electric machine downstream of a dual clutch transmission, which is downstream of an engine. In one example, a method comprises communicating from a transmission, a torque to accelerate transmission components from a first speed to a second speed with first and second clutches of a dual transmission open, the communicating performed while an electric machine coupled to the dual clutch transmission at a location downstream of the dual clutch transmission is providing torque to propel a vehicle. In this way, wheel speed may remain substantially constant while the transmission is shifted and the engine is stopped.
Claims20
A driveline operating method, comprising:
- propelling a vehicle in an electric only propulsion mode, wherein the vehicle is propelled only by an electric machine directly coupled to an output shaft of a dual clutch transmission and both of a first clutch and a second clutch of the dual clutch transmission are in an open state;
- and
- responsive to a transmission shift being requested while propelling the vehicle in the electric only propulsion mode:
- determining an amount of torque predicted to accelerate transmission components of the dual clutch transmission from a first speed to a second speed based on an inertia of the transmission components;
- and
- accelerating the transmission components from the first speed to the second speed by providing the amount of torque to the transmission components by the electric machine.
A driveline operating method, comprising:
- initiating a gear shift of a dual clutch transmission while an engine coupled to the dual clutch transmission is not combusting air and fuel and while an electric machine is directly rotating an output shaft of the dual clutch transmission;
- and
- responsive to initiating the gear shift:
- accelerating transmission components of the dual clutch transmission by adjusting a torque output of the electric machine based on an inertia of the transmission components;
- and
- performing the gear shift by shifting the dual clutch transmission from a first gear to a second gear.
A system, comprising:
- an engine;
- a dual clutch transmission coupled to the engine;
- an electric machine including a fixed connection to an output shaft of the dual clutch transmission;
- and
- a system controller including executable instructions stored in non-transitory memory that, when executed, cause the system controller to:
- operate in an electric only propulsion mode, wherein the engine is not combusting fuel and air, the engine is decoupled from the output shaft of the dual clutch transmission, and the output shaft of the dual clutch transmission is rotated via a torque output of the electric machine;
- and
- in response to a transmission shift request while operating in the electric only propulsion mode:
- determine a demanded wheel torque based on an accelerator pedal position;
- determine a compensation torque predicted to accelerate transmission components of the dual clutch transmission from a first speed to a second speed according to an inertia of the transmission components;
- adjust the torque output of the electric machine to equal a sum of the demanded wheel torque and the compensation torque;
- and
- shift the dual clutch transmission from a first gear to a second gear.
A driveline operating method, comprising:
- propelling a vehicle solely via an electric machine while an engine of the vehicle is decoupled from the driveline, the electric machine positioned in the driveline downstream of a transmission;
- initiating a gear shift of the transmission according to a shift schedule while propelling the vehicle solely via the electric machine while the engine is decoupled from the driveline;
- responsive to initiating the gear shift:
- adjusting a torque output of the electric machine based on a compensation torque predicted to accelerate transmission components of the transmission to a desired speed for the gear shift and a demanded wheel torque;
- and
- shifting gears of the transmission while adjusting the torque output of the electric machine.
