Closed loop foldback control

A controller for use in a power converter, comprising:

• a comparator configured to receive a feedback signal representative of an output of the power converter and a first regulation reference representative of a target value for the output of the power converter, and to generate a first regulation signal in response to the comparison of the feedback signal and the first regulation reference;
• a request control coupled to the comparator and configured to receive the first regulation reference, and output a request signal with request events indicative of a turn-on of a first power switch of the power converter;
• and
• an indirect sensor control coupled to the comparator and configured to receive the first regulation signal and to generate the first regulation reference, the indirect sensor control further configured to generate an enable signal when a condition is met, wherein the condition exists when the feedback signal is less than the first regulation reference for a threshold duration of time, the indirect sensor control further configured to vary the first regulation reference in response to the enable signal to reduce the output of the power converter.
