Abstract
In an embodiment, a processor includes a core to execute instructions, a power controller to control an operating frequency of the core, and a context filter logic coupled to the power controller to prevent a performance state change request from being granted by the power controller based at least in part on a context of a system including the processor. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Claims34
A machine-readable storage medium having machine-readable instructions stored there on, that when executed, cause one or more processors to perform an operation comprising:
- determining activity of a display;
- restricting requests by one or more applications from accessing the one or more processors in accordance with a determination that the display is inactive;
- executing the requests by the one or more applications from accessing the one or more processors if it is determined that the display is active;
- increasing voltage and/or frequency of the one or more processors if it is determined that the display is active;
- and
- managing power according to whether the one or more processors is powered by a battery or an AC power adaptor.
A machine-readable storage medium having machine-readable instructions stored there on, that when executed, cause one or more processors to perform an operation comprising:
- determining activity of a display;
- restricting requests by one or more applications if it is determined that the display is inactive;
- executing the requests by the one or more applications if it is determined that the display is active;
- modifying voltage and/or frequency of the one or more processors if it is determined that the display is active;
- and
- managing power according to whether the one or more processors is powered by a battery or an AC power adaptor.
A mobile computing device comprising:
- a display;
- a processor communicatively coupled to the display;
- a battery to power the display and the processor;
- logic to check whether the display is off, and to defer requests by one or more applications to execute on the processor so long as the display is off, wherein the logic is to allow the requests by the one or more applications to execute on the processor if the display is on;
- and
- power management logic to manage power according to whether the processor is powered by a battery or an AC power adaptor, wherein the power management logic is to increase voltage and/or frequency of the processor if it is determined that the display is active.
A mobile computing device comprising:
- a display;
- a processor communicatively coupled to the display;
- a battery to power the display and the processor;
- logic to check whether the display is active, and to restrict requests by one or more applications to execute on the processor so long as the display is inactive, wherein the logic is to allow the requests by one or more applications to execute on the processor if the display is active;
- and
- power management logic to manage power according to whether the processor is powered by a battery or an AC power adaptor, wherein the power management logic is to increase voltage and/or frequency of the processor if it is determined that the display is active.
A mobile computing device comprising:
- a display;
- a processor communicatively coupled to the display;
- a battery to power the display and the processor;
- a first logic to determine whether the display is active, and to restrict requests by one or more applications to execute on the processor if the first logic determines that the display is inactive, wherein the first logic is to allow the processor to execute the requests by one or more applications if it is determined that the display is active;
- a second logic to prevent performance state change of the processor if it is determined that the display is inactive;
- and
- power management logic to manage power according to whether the processor is powered by a battery or an AC power adaptor, wherein the power management logic is to increase voltage and/or frequency of the processor if it is determined that the display is active.
A mobile computing device comprising:
- a display;
- a processor communicatively coupled to the display;
- a battery to power the display and the processor, wherein the processor is to check activity of the display, wherein the processor is to restrict requests by one or more applications if it is determined that the display is inactive, wherein the processor is to execute the requests by the one or more applications if it is determined that the display is active;
- and
- power management logic to manage power according to whether the processor is powered by a battery or an AC power adaptor, wherein the power management logic is to modify voltage and/or frequency of the processor if it is determined that the display is active.
