Smart functional leather for steering wheel and dash board

A system comprising:

• a functional layered assembly including
• a leather sheet including a first side and a second side opposite from the first side,
• a flexible electronic circuit contacting the first side of the leather sheet, and including a printed and cured conductive ink, and including a light source, and
• a pigmented coating arranged over the electronic circuit,
• a microcontroller configured to control functions of the circuit;
• and
• a power source electrically connected to the circuit through the microcontroller;
• and
• wherein the light source emits light when supplied with power from the power source.

A functional component comprising a substrate, and a functional layered assembly covering a surface of the substrate, the functional layered assembly including:

• a leather sheet including a first side and a second side opposite from the first side, the leather sheet being arranged over the surface of the substrate such that a first side of the leather sheet is facing away from the substrate,
• a flexible electronic circuit contacting the first side of the leather sheet;
• and
• a pigmented coating arranged over the electronic circuit,
• wherein the surface of the substrate is contoured;
• and
• wherein the functional layered assembly, including the electronic circuit, conforms to the contours of the surface of the substrate.
