Abstract
Methods, systems, and devices, including machine-readable media, for dynamic battery power management are disclosed. In some implementations, an electronic device that is powered by a battery senses a voltage provided by the battery and an electric current provided by the battery. The electronic device determines a present state of the battery. The electronic device determines a current limit for the electronic device based on the sensed voltage and electric current and the determined present state of the battery. The electronic device manages power use of the electronic device to maintain electric current draw from the battery at or below the electric current limit.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- providing, by a battery-powered device, a user interface configured to receive user input indicating a power management preference for the battery-powered device;
- receiving, by the battery-powered device, user input to the user interface that indicates a power management preference for the battery-powered device;
- in response to receiving the user input, adjusting, by the battery-powered device, an electric current limit for current drawn from a battery of the battery-powered device, wherein the electric current limit is set based on (i) the indicated power management preference and (ii) a variable maximum electric current limit that is determined, based on a current state of the battery, to represent an amount of electric current that the battery can provide without a voltage provided by the battery falling below a predetermined voltage threshold;
- and
- managing, by the battery-powered device, operation of the battery-powered device such that current drawn from the battery does not exceed the electric current limit.
A battery-powered device comprising:
- a display;
- a battery;
- and
- one or more processors and one or more machine-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the battery-powered device to perform operations comprising:
- providing, on the display, a user interface configured to receive user input indicating a power management preference for the battery-powered device;
- receiving, by the battery-powered device, user input to the user interface that indicates a power management preference for the battery-powered device;
- in response to receiving the user input, adjusting, by the battery-powered device, an electric current limit for current drawn from a battery of the battery-powered device, wherein the electric current limit is set based on (i) the indicated power management preference and (ii) a variable maximum electric current limit that is determined, based on a current state of the battery, to represent an amount of electric current that the battery can provide without a voltage provided by the battery falling below a predetermined voltage threshold;
- and
- managing, by the battery-powered device, operation of the battery-powered device such that current drawn from the battery does not exceed the electric current limit.
One or more non-transitory machine-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a battery- powered device, cause the battery-powered device to perform operations comprising:
- providing, by the battery-powered device, a user interface configured to receive user input indicating a power management preference for the battery-powered device;
- receiving, by the battery-powered device, user input to the user interface that indicates a power management preference for the battery-powered device;
- in response to receiving the user input, adjusting, by the battery-powered device, an electric current limit for current drawn from a battery of the battery-powered device, wherein the electric current limit is set based on (i) the indicated power management preference and (ii) a variable maximum electric current limit that is determined, based on a current state of the battery, to represent an amount of electric current that the battery can provide without a voltage provided by the battery falling below a predetermined voltage threshold;
- and
- managing, by the battery-powered device, operation of the battery-powered device such that current drawn from the battery does not exceed the electric current limit.
