Abstract
The invention relates to method for determining predictor blocks of a first resolution layer image from blocks of a second resolution layer image of a spatially scalable video codec, wherein a resolution of the first resolution layer image is higher than a resolution of the second resolution layer image, the method comprising: up-scaling each block of the second resolution layer image to a corresponding block of an up-scaled second resolution layer image; and filtering each block of the up-scaled second resolution layer image by a sharpening filter to obtain a predictor block of the first resolution layer image.

- up-scaling each block of the second resolution layer image to a corresponding block of an up-scaled second resolution layer image using a scale factor that is different from a ratio of the resolutions of the first resolution layer image and the second resolution layer image;
- filtering a block of the up-scaled second resolution layer image by a warp sharpening filter to obtain a filtered block of the up-scaled second resolution layer image;
- and
- selecting a predictor block of the first resolution layer image from the filtered block with filtering by the warp sharpening filter and the block without filtering by the warp sharpening filter in the up-scaled second resolution layer image.
