Customization of search results for search queries received from third party sites

A system comprising:

• a computer including a processor and a memory device storing instructions that, when executed by the computer, causes the computer to perform operations comprising:
• receiving, by the computer, a request from a client device over a communication network, the request submitted through a search interface of a web resource hosted at an Internet domain that is different from an Internet domain of a search engine;
• identifying, by the computer by use of the search engine, content items responsive to the request;
• identifying, by the computer and for each of the content items, an Internet domain used to specify a location to access the content item on the Internet;
• generating, by the computer, a response to the request that prioritizes the content items based at least in part on the Internet domains identified for the content items according to the Internet domain through which the search interface of the web resource is hosted;
• and
• providing, by the computer, the generated response to the client device over the communication network.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more computers, cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:

• receiving, by the one or more computers, a request from a client device over a communication network, the request submitted through a search interface of a web resource hosted at an Internet domain that is different from an Internet domain of a search engine;
• identifying, by the one or more computers by use of the search engine, content items responsive to the request;
• identifying, by the one or more computers and for each of the content items, an Internet domain used to specify a location to access the content item on the Internet;
• generating, by the one or more computers, a response to the request that prioritizes the content items based at least in part on the Internet domains identified for the content items according to the Internet domain through which the search interface of the web resource is hosted;
• and
• providing, by the one or more computers, the generated response to the client device over the communication network.
