Abstract
A system for controlling an ambient microgravity environment of a system for drawing optical fiber including a filter arranged to cleanse an environment from contaminants, a molecular sieve arranged in a series of at least one of meshes and baffles to dehumidify the environment, at least one of a pump and a fan to draw an environmental gas through the filter, through the molecular sieve and back in to an ambient environment and a housing in which the filter, molecular sieve and at least one of pump and fan reside.
Claims17
A system for controlling an ambient microgravity environment of a system for drawing optical fiber, the system comprising:
- a filter arranged to cleanse an environment from contaminants;
- a molecular sieve arranged in a series of at least one of meshes and baffles to dehumidify the environment;
- at least one of a pump and a fan to draw an environmental gas through the filter, through the molecular sieve and back in to an ambient environment;
- a housing in which the filter, molecular sieve and at least one of pump and fan reside;
- and
- a sensor to detect humidity in a closed environment.
A method for controlling an ambient microgravity environment for drawing optical fiber, the method comprising:
- sensing humidity in the environment, where an optical fiber is being manufactured, with a sensor;
- relaying the sensed data to a controller;
- and
- drawing environmental fluid through a filter then through a molecular sieve then back to the environment with at least one of a fan and a pump based on the sensed data to control environmental conditions where the optical fiber is being manufactured as controlled by the controller.
A system for controlling an ambient microgravity environment of a system for drawing optical fiber, the system comprising:
- a filter arranged to cleanse an environment from contaminants;
- a molecular sieve arranged in a series of at least one of meshes and baffles to dehumidify the environment;
- at least one of a pump and a fan to draw an environmental gas through the filter, through the molecular sieve and back in to an ambient environment;
- a housing in which the filter, molecular sieve and at least one of pump and fan reside;
- and
- a heater to outgas at least one of the filter, the molecular sieve, at least one of the pump and the fan and an internal surface of the housing.
