Abstract
A method and system for embedding a database in a 3D object uses a 3D dimensional printing device and a computer-readable memory that stores a build sequence comprising instructions that, when executed by a processor, will cause the 3D printing device to form a three-dimensional object by depositing layers of build material and by including, in one or more of the layers, physical representations that represent a data set that includes a record of information for production of the 3D object.
Claims20
A method of producing a record of information for production of a three-dimensional (3D) object, the method comprising:
- by a processing device:
- receiving a plurality of structural parameters for a 3D object;
- identifying a data set to be embedded in the 3D object, wherein the data set includes a record of information for production of the 3D object;
- using the plurality of structural parameters to develop an instruction set that is configured to, when executed by a processor of a 3D printing device, cause the 3D printing device to form a 3D object that exhibits the plurality of structural parameters by depositing a build material in a plurality of layers and curing the build material;
- including, in the instruction set:
- the data set represented as a plurality of physical representations, wherein each of the plurality of physical representations is a 3D structure, and
- instructions that, when executed by the processor of the 3D printing device, will cause the 3D printing device to impart at least one copy of the plurality of physical representations in the 3D object;
- and
- saving the instruction set to a data file.
A system for producing a record of information for the production of a three-dimensional (3D) object, the system comprising:
- a processing device;
- and
- a computer-readable memory containing programming instructions that, when executed by the processing device, cause the processing device to:
- receive a plurality of structural parameters for a 3D object,
- identify a data set to be embedded in the 3D object, wherein the data set includes the record of information for production of the 3D object,
- use the plurality of structural parameters to develop an instruction set that is configured to, when executed by a processor of a 3D printing device, cause the 3D printing device to form a 3D object that exhibits the plurality of structural parameters by depositing a build material in a plurality of layers and curing the build material,
- include, in the instruction set:
- the data set represented as a plurality of physical representations, wherein each of the plurality of physical representations is a 3D structure, and
- instructions that, when executed by the processor of the 3D printing device, will cause the 3D printing device to impart at least one copy of the plurality of physical representations that represent the data set in the 3D object, and
- save the instruction set to a data file.
The system of wherein the instructions to develop the instruction set comprise instructions to:
- identify a schema for representing a data structure;
- generate the data structure, wherein the data structure comprises at least a portion of the data set and the identified schema;
- determine a data capacity for the 3D object;
- identify at least one of the plurality of physical representations for representing the data structure;
- and
- format the data structure for placement in the 3D object in accordance with the identified at least one of the plurality of physical representations, the determined data capacity, or both.
