Abstract
A robotic surgery system comprises a mounting base, a plurality of surgical instruments, and an articulate support assembly. Each instrument is insertable into a patient through an associated minimally invasive aperture to a desired internal surgical site. The articulate support assembly movably supports the instruments relative to the base. The support generally comprises an orienting platform, a platform linkage movably supporting the orienting platform relative to the base, and a plurality of manipulators mounted to the orienting platform, wherein each manipulator movably supports an associated instrument.
Claims16
A modular manipulator support for use in a robotic surgery system, the system comprising a mounting base and at least one manipulator defining driven links and joints for moving an associated instrument to manipulate tissues, the support for movably supporting and positioning the at least one manipulator relative to the base comprising:
- an orienting platform rotatably coupled to the mounting base;
- and
- at least one arm coupleable to the orienting platform, each of the at least one arm movably supporting an associated manipulator and defining pre-configurable and releasably fixable links and joints.
A robotic surgery system comprising:
- a ceiling-height mounting base;
- an articulate support assembly movably supporting at least one surgical instrument relative to the base, the assembly comprising:
- an orienting platform coupleable to the base to permit the articulate support assembly to extend generally downward from the base;
- at least one arm coupleable to the orienting platform, each of the at least one arm defining releasably fixable links and joints that are pre-configurable;
- and
- at least one manipulator coupleable to the at least one arm, each of the at least one manipulator defining driven links and joints for moving the instruments so as to manipulate tissues.
