Abstract
A user equipment is configured for use in a wireless communication system. The user equipment in this regard is configured to detect an orientation of an equipment coordinate frame defined for the user equipment relative to an earth coordinate frame defined for Earth. The user equipment is also configured to determine, based on the detected orientation, a set) of beams defined in the equipment coordinate frame which does not include any beam pointing in one or more predefined directions in the earth coordinate frame. The user equipment is further configured to perform a beam sweep or scan on the determined set of beams.
Claims21
A method performed by a user equipment configured for use in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
- detecting an orientation of an equipment coordinate frame defined for the user equipment relative to an earth coordinate frame defined for Earth;
- determining, based on the detected orientation and one or more predefined criteria, a set of beams defined in the equipment coordinate frame which does not include any beam pointing in one or more predefined directions in the earth coordinate frame, wherein at least one criterion of the one or more predefined criteria comprises whether the user equipment is located indoors versus outdoors;
- and
- performing a beam sweep or scan on the determined set of beams.
A user equipment configured for use in a wireless communication system, the user equipment comprising:
- processing circuitry and a memory, the memory containing instructions executable by
- the processing circuitry whereby the user equipment is configured to:
- detect an orientation of an equipment coordinate frame defined for the user equipment relative to an earth coordinate frame defined for Earth;
- determine, based on the detected orientation and one or more predefined criteria, a set of beams defined in the equipment coordinate frame which does not include any beam pointing in one or more predefined directions in the earth coordinate frame, wherein at least one criterion of the one or more predefined criteria comprises whether the user equipment is located indoors versus outdoors;
- and
- perform a beam sweep or scan on the determined set of beams.
A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon a computer program that, when executed by processing circuitry of a user equipment configured for use in a wireless communication system, causes the user equipment to:
- detect an orientation of an equipment coordinate frame defined for the user equipment relative to an earth coordinate frame defined for Earth;
- determine, based on the detected orientation and one or more predefined criteria, a set of beams defined in the equipment coordinate frame which does not include any beam pointing in one or more predefined directions in the earth coordinate frame, wherein at least one criterion of the one or more predefined criteria comprises whether the user equipment is located indoors versus outdoors;
- and
- perform a beam sweep or scan on the determined set of beams.
