Abstract
A method, system, and computer program product for measuring latency in storage area networks comprising receiving a command from a node at a first time by a target in a storage area network, evaluating the command by the target, and returning a reply to the node from the target at a second time, wherein a difference between the second time and the first time is less than a time period indicative of a processing delay in the target, wherein the reply is considered a good status reply.
Claims23
A method for measuring latency in storage area networks, the method comprising:
- receiving a Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) command from a node at a first time by a target in a storage area network;
- evaluating the command by the target to determine that the command should be handled without being enqueued;
- and
- returning a reply to the node from the target at a second time, wherein a difference between the second time and the first time is less than a time period indicative of a processing delay in the target, wherein the reply is considered a good status reply.
A system, comprising:
- a storage area network;
- and
- computer-executable program logic operating in memory, wherein the computer executable logic program enables execution across one or more processors of:
- receiving a Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) command from a node at a first time by a target in the storage area network;
- evaluating the command by the target to determine that the command should be handled without being enqueued;
- and
- returning a reply to the node from the target at a second time, wherein a difference between the second time and the first time is less than a time period indicative of a processing delay in the target, wherein the reply is considered a good status reply.
A computer program product comprising:
- a non-transitory computer readable medium encoded with computer executable program code, the code enabling execution across one or more processors of:
- receiving a Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) command from a node at a first time by a target in a storage area network;
- evaluating the command by the target to determine that the command should be handled without being enqueued;
- and
- returning a reply to the node from the target at a second time, wherein a difference between the second time and the first time is less than a time period indicative of a processing delay in the target, wherein the reply is considered a good status reply.
