Abstract
The present invention relates to a method of screening for renal cell carcinoma in a subject, said method comprising determining the level and/or chemical composition of one or both of the glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) chondroitin sulfate (CS) and heparan sulfate (HS) in a body fluid sample, wherein said sample has been obtained from said subject.
Claims23
A method of screening for renal cell carcinoma in a subject, said method comprising determining the level and/or chemical composition of one or both of the glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) chondroitin sulfate (CS) and heparan sulfate (HS) in a body fluid sample obtained from said subject,
- wherein said GAGs are subjected to a step of fragmentation or cleavage or digestion by enzyme treatment followed by a step of derivatization, and
- wherein an altered level and/or chemical composition of CS and/or HS in said sample, as determined by analysing GAGs that have been subjected to said enzyme treatment and derivatization, in comparison to a control level and/or chemical composition is indicative of renal cell carcinoma in said subject.
A method for the prognosis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in a subject, said method comprising determining the level and/or chemical composition of one or both of the glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) chondroitin sulfate (CS) and heparan sulfate (HS) in a body fluid sample obtained from said subject,
- wherein said GAGs are subjected to a step of fragmentation or cleavage or digestion, and
- wherein an altered level and/or chemical composition of CS and/or HS in said sample in comparison to a control level and/or chemical composition is indicative of prognosis for renal cell carcinoma in said subject.
