Abstract
A computer-based surgery support system and method for obtaining information of surgical procedures from networked equipment in an operating room, storing the retrieved information in a database, receiving a request for the stored information from a user terminal, and providing the stored information in accordance with the received request. The networked equipment may be configured for use in cataract surgical procedures, such as a phacoemulsion system.
Claims50
A configurable surgical system comprising:
- a phacoemulsification surgical console;
- a computer-based graphical user interface (GUI) coupled with the phacoemulsification surgical console;
- a hand piece coupled with a network attached computer;
- wherein the network attached computer includes a processor and a data storage device storing instructions which, when executed on the processor, cause the network attached computer to perform tasks including:
- providing access to a plurality of predefined programs, each unique to a one of a plurality of users and being selectable via the GUI, wherein each one of the plurality of predefined programs, upon execution, controls at least phacoemulsification power, irrigation and aspiration;
- selecting a predefined program of the plurality of predefined programs;
- tuning at least the phacoemulsification power, the irrigation and the aspiration controlled by the selected predefined program responsive to user input to the GUI after selection of the selected predefined program;
- receiving adjustments to at least the tuned phacoemulsification power, the tuned irrigation and the tuned aspiration via the GUI during a procedure;
- and
- adjusting the tuned phacoemulsification power, the tuned irrigation and the tuned aspiration in accordance with the received adjustments;
- wherein the hand piece, in response to the selected predefined program and adjustments, adjusts the tuned irrigation, the tuned aspiration, and an amount of ultrasonic energy corresponding to the tuned phacoemulsification power during the procedure upon receiving a signal from the network attached computer.
A configurable phacoemulsification surgical console comprising:
- a handpiece coupled with a network attached computer;
- the network attached computer including a processor and a data storage device configured to store instructions;
- a graphical user interface (GUI) configured to provide access to a plurality of predefined programs, each unique to a one of a plurality of users and being selectable via the GUI, wherein each one of the plurality of predefined programs, upon execution by the processor, controls at least phacoemulsification power, irrigation and aspiration;
- the processor configured to select a predefined program of the plurality of predefined programs;
- the processor further configured to tune at least the phacoemulsification power, the irrigation and the aspiration performed by the selected predefined program responsive to user input to the GUI after selection;
- the GUI further configured to receive adjustments to at least the tuned phacoemulsification power, the tuned irrigation and the tuned aspiration via the GUI during a procedure;
- the processor further configured to adjust the tuned phacoemulsification power, the tuned irrigation and the tuned aspiration in accordance with the received adjustments;
- wherein the hand piece, in response to the selected predefined program and adjustments, adjusts the tuned irrigation, the tuned aspiration, and an amount of ultrasonic energy corresponding to the tuned phacoemulsification power during the procedure upon receiving a signal from the network attached computer.
