Abstract
Described is an approach for computing a quorum for a two-node non-shared storage converged architecture via a distributed state machine without the need for a quorum device.
Claims27
A computer implemented method for transferring mastership of a first node to a second node in a two node non-shared storage cluster, the method comprising:
- initiating a transfer of mastership from a first node to a second node in a two node non-shared storage cluster at least by generating a proposed sequence number, wherein
- the two node non-shared storage comprises a first node and a second node, the first node comprises a first local storage that is accessible by the second node only via the first node, and the second node comprises a second local storage that is accessible by the first node only via the second node;
- writing the proposed sequence number to a plurality of persistent storage locations as a sequence number, the plurality of persistent storage locations comprising:
- a first local registry on the first node,
- a second local registry on the second node,
- a first data on a first local storage of the first node, and
- a second data on a second local storage of the second node;
- and
- updating a portion of the plurality of persistent storage locations upon completion of the transfer.
A system for transferring mastership of a first node to a second node in a two node non-shared storage cluster, comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a memory for holding programmable code, wherein the programmable code includes instructions for:
- initiating a transfer of mastership from a first node to a second node in a two node non-shared storage cluster by generating a proposed sequence number, wherein
- the two node non-shared storage comprises a first node and a second node, the first node comprises a first local storage that is accessible by the second node only via the first node, and the second node comprises a second local storage that is accessible by the first node only via the second node,
- writing the proposed sequence number to a plurality of persistent storage locations as a sequence number, the plurality of persistent storage locations comprising:
- a first local registry on the first node,
- a second local registry on the second node,
- a first data on a first local storage of the first node, and
- a second data on a second local storage of the second node, and
- updating a portion of the plurality of persistent storage locations upon completion of the transfer.
A computer program product embodied on a non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon a sequence of instructions which, when executed by a processor causes the processor to execute a set of acts for transferring mastership of a first node to a second node in a two node non-shared storage cluster, the set of acts comprising:
- initiating a transfer of mastership from a first node to a second node in a two node non-shared storage cluster at least by generating a proposed sequence number, wherein
- the two node non-shared storage comprises a first node and a second node, the first node comprises a first local storage that is accessible by the second node only via the first node, and the second node comprises a second local storage that is accessible by the first node only via the second node;
- writing the proposed sequence number to a plurality of persistent storage locations, the plurality of persistent storage locations comprising:
- a first local registry on the first node,
- a second local registry on the second node,
- a first data on a first local storage of the first node, and
- a second data on a second local storage of the second node;
- and
- updating a portion of the plurality of persistent storage locations upon completion of the transfer.
