Abstract
Systems and methods are described herein for job execution using system critical threads. An in-memory database system having pages loaded into a memory and having associated physical disk storage generates a safety critical thread pool. The safety critical thread pool has one or more safety critical threads associated with flushing the pages to the physical disk storage. Execution of the one or more safety critical threads is initiated within the safety critical thread pool. A job request to access data stored within the physical disk storage is received. Utilization levels of the one or more safety critical threads are monitored. Execution of the job request is permitted based on the utilization levels associated with the one or more safety critical threads.
Claims18
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- generating, by an in-memory database system in which database operations are executed on pages loaded into a main memory of the in-memory database system and having associated physical disk storage, a system critical thread pool having one or more system critical threads that flush the pages from the main memory to the physical disk storage, wherein the one or more system critical threads are prioritized;
- initiating, in the in-memory database system, execution of the one or more system critical threads within the system critical thread pool;
- receiving, by the in-memory database system, a job request from a remote client device to access data stored within the physical disk storage;
- monitoring, by the in-memory database system, utilization levels of the one or more system critical threads;
- permitting, by the in-memory database system, execution of the job request based on (i) the utilization levels associated with the one or more system critical threads or (ii) an associated priority of the one or more system critical threads;
- and
- identifying, by the in-memory database system, the one or more system critical threads associated with flushing the pages to the physical disk storage,
- wherein the in-memory database system comprises a primary database system and an associated secondary database system, and
- wherein the generating, initiating, receiving, monitoring, and permitting are performed in the primary database system, and wherein a processor of the primary database system replicates translation logs directly to a processor of the associated secondary database system, the associated secondary database system having a read-only connection with the remote client device.
An in-memory database system in which database operations are executed on pages loaded into a main memory of the in-memory database system, the in-memory database system comprising:
- at least one data processor;
- a primary database system;
- an associated secondary database system;
- physical disk storage;
- and
- memory storing instructions which, upon execution by the at least one data processor, result in operations comprising:
- generating a system critical thread pool having one or more system critical threads that flush the pages from the main memory to the physical disk storage, wherein the one or more system critical threads are prioritized;
- initiating execution of the one or more system critical threads within the system critical thread pool;
- receiving a job request from a remote client device to access data stored within the physical disk storage;
- monitoring utilization levels of the one or more system critical threads;
- permitting execution of the job request based on (i) the utilization levels associated with the one or more system critical threads or (ii) an associated priority of the one or more system critical threads;
- and
- identifying the one or more system critical threads associated with flushing the pages to the physical disk storage,
- wherein the generating, initiating, receiving, monitoring, and permitting are performed in the primary database system, and wherein a processor of the primary database system replicates translation logs directly to a processor of the associated secondary database system, the associated secondary database system having a read-only connection with the remote client device.
A non-transitory computer-programmable product of an in-memory database system in which database operations are executed on pages loaded into a main memory of the in-memory database system, the non-transitory computer-programmable product including instructions which, upon execution by at least one data processor forming part of at least one computing system, result in operations comprising:
- generating a system critical thread pool having one or more system critical threads that flush the pages from the main memory to a physical disk storage, wherein the one or more system critical threads are prioritized;
- initiating execution of the one or more system critical threads within the system critical thread pool;
- receiving a job request from a remote client device to access data stored within the physical disk storage;
- monitoring utilization levels of the one or more system critical threads;
- permitting execution of the job request based on (i) the utilization levels associated with the one or more system critical threads or (ii) an associated priority of the one or more system critical threads;
- and
- identifying the one or more system critical threads associated with flushing the pages to the physical disk storage,
- wherein the in-memory database system comprises a primary database system and an associated secondary database system, and
- wherein the generating, initiating, receiving, monitoring, and permitting are performed in the primary database system, and wherein a processor of the primary database system replicates translation logs directly to a processor of the associated secondary database system, the associated secondary database system having a read-only connection with the remote client device.
