Abstract
A cross-linkable flame retardant material includes a terminal furan-containing flame retardant moiety. The terminal furan-containing flame retardant moiety includes a furan moiety bonded to a phosphorus moiety via a phosphoryl linkage or via a phosphinyl linkage.
Claims7
A process of forming a cross-linkable flame retardant polymeric material, the process comprising:
- utilizing furan dicarboxylic dimethyl ester (FDME) to form a FDME-based polymeric material having a terminal carboxylic acid group;
- and
- chemically reacting a furan-containing flame retardant molecule with the FDME-based polymeric material to form a cross-linkable flame retardant polymeric material, wherein the furan-containing flame retardant molecule includes a furan moiety bonded to a phosphorus moiety via a phosphoryl linkage or via a phosphinyl linkage.
