Abstract
The present disclosure provides a low chloride paint detackifier composition. Also disclosed are methods of making the paint detackifier composition and methods of using the paint detackifier composition. The detakifier may be made from cationized starch and sodium aluminate. The starch can be wheat starch, corn starch, tapioca starch, potato starch, rice starch, sweet potato starch, sago starch, mung bean starch, arrowroot starch, and any combination thereof.
Claims9
A method of preparing a composition for detackifying paint, comprising:
- heating starch to form a starch solution;
- adjusting a pH of the starch solution to a value greater than about 12;
- adding a cationizing agent;
- heating the starch solution containing the cationizing agent to produce a solution of cationized starch;
- and
- adding a solution of sodium aluminate,
- wherein the composition comprises a concentration of chloride less than or equal to about 30,000 ppm.
A method of preparing a composition for detackifying paint, comprising the steps of:
- heating starch to form a starch solution;
- adjusting a pH of the starch solution to a value greater than about 12;
- adding a cationizing agent;
- heating the starch solution containing the cationizing agent to produce a solution of cationized starch;
- and
- adding a solution of sodium aluminate to the solution of cationized starch,
- wherein a pH of the cationized starch solution is at a value of greater than about 12 prior to the step of adding a solution of sodium aluminate.
A method of preparing a composition for detackifying paint, comprising:
- heating starch to form a starch solution;
- adjusting a pH of the starch solution to a value greater than about 12;
- adding a cationizing agent;
- heating the starch solution containing the cationizing agent to produce a solution of cationized starch;
- and
- adding a solution of sodium aluminate,
- wherein the sodium aluminate is derived from membrane grade or diaphragm grade caustic soda.
